5 yrs ago, it dug a hole to China in my backyard. I was in the hospital, & my neighbor reported me.

Had one come through my yard last year...there were some pretty good sized holes in the yard one morning. I had no idea what had caused them so I called my pest-control company. Guy came out, took one look and said "Armadillo". Apparently though they travel in a straight line, more or less, and don't keep on returning to dig more holes.

I might be mistaken but aren't these the animals that cause Leprosy?

They are one of the animal vectors that can transmit leprosy, the cause is the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae. And despite its historical reputation, it is not nearly as contagious as its cousin, Mycobacterium tuberculosis. 2,000 years ago curing it would have been a miracle, today, all it takes is a few pills.

Great shot! I've been able to photograph them standing, running, digging but never head on. Those little buggers never stop moving. Thanks for sharing.

I had one that kept coming back to the same hole that I would fill. I tried the repellent pellets( waste of money). I finally set up a trap and
baited it with sardines. Caught it the next day and relocated it to another wooded area. Fairly certain they are protected in Texas and Florida.
