Default Nationally Awarded Miniature painting using my photo

I was so thrilled when I received this email from a lady in South Florida the other day.

From Lynn - I've just been notified by the Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society that I have won FIRST PLACE in the "Ivorine"* category for the painting "Baby Blue (Young Little Blue Heron)" at their 82nd Annual International Exhibition of Fine Art in Miniature. (The MPSGS, based in Washington, D.C., is the oldest miniature society in the country and one of the top such groups in the world). I'm thrilled with this award!

The show will run from Nov. 22, 2015 to Jan. 3, 2016. (Running Now)

*[Ivorine is the substrate on which I painted this painting. Unlike canvas, it is uber smooth, mimicking ivory in its feel/appearance, hence its popularity for painters of miniatures. A little tough to learn to use - this was my first year giving it a try and it took some trial and error].

And a special THANK YOU to the amazing photographer, Ron Clark of The Villages, FL, who gave me permission to use his photo for reference. I have approximately 150 photos that I've taken of juvenile Little Blue Herons in my files and his one superb shot trumped them all... Thanks, Ron (and to Hunter Hampton for the introduction)!

Here is my photo and her painting (has a penny to show how little it is).

Good example of "what goes around comes around" in a positive way.

Your photo is beautiful. Very cool to see it as a painting, isn't it?
