Susan's China Photos
Thought it might be fun to show you the Beijing we visited, end of November, 2002. We had Peking Duck that year for our Thanksgiving dinner. The thing that I find interesting about these pics is that they are what Beijing looked like then...the skyscapers you see on TV (if you are watching the Olympics) have in some cases, replaced these scenes.
I'm sorry to delete these, but I must. Last edited by Just Susan; 10-10-2008 at 06:32 PM. |

Re: Susan's China Photos
Susan, they are beautiful, thanks for posting.
That's what they just said on television this morning, the difference in the past couple of years is tremendous with all the new skyscrapers etc. Guess that's where our US dollars are going!! Sorry didn't mean to make this a political thread, but its the truth. Thanks for going through the trouble of posting these photos, it was well worth it for me anyway. Kath

Re: Susan's China Photos
Beautiful pictures and such a contrast in such a short time. Our close friends just returned to Cincinnati after living in Beijing for several years. They went there for him to set up operations for Proctor and Gamble in Asia.

Re: Susan's China Photos
Reminds me of our visit to China in 1980 and those pictures make it seem like much hadn't changed in a long time. Very different when you see the pictures of the Olympics now.
Thank You for Sharing, Mikark

Re: Susan's China Photos
Thanks everyone for your nice words.
Some comments... Kathieand Ronda if you enjoyed it, it was worth it! I wish we could have stayed as long as your friends Gracie. China is a very interesting place. We went to Beijing, Xian, and Hong Kong about 11 days, then on to other countries. Could have spent years and definitely want to go back for more, more, more. Mikark and CIB when we were there, we hired a a private guide and driver. There is more flexability and customization to one's schedule that way and well worth it. While we were there, our guide commented that the National Bird of China was the Crane. She was referring to the metal giants hovering over all the half-built buildings growing up from the dirt everywhere! The Olympics has changed the face of Beijing more than any other one event in the history of China. Amazing change, amazing progress, amazing loss. |

Kind of cool, the last picture is the site where the Men's and Women's 78 mile bicycle races ended.

Hi Susan,
I am ready for the million pictures you have of China. . We were in China about the same time as you and went to places where we were the first "big nose" that people ever saw. Some people stared at us, one kid was afraid of us and generally everyone was very friendly. We enjoyed the major cities for what they had to offer but going into the country side was the best. For shoppers the Pearl Market is the place to go. There are so many places in China I would like to go back to - Karst mountains for one. Sid could get a job in one town we really liked - reminded us of Woodstock, NY. Susan, if your pictures are posted on another site (like dot photo) where I can view them please let me know. HB |
