Rumor but Logically Interesting

Rumor (2nd hand) but logically interesting~~

Just wondering if anyone down in the Villages has heard of this – think it strange how I come to Rhode Island and get this Villages news.
Today I met a guy from Kentucky who is here in Rhode Island for training the polo horses at the Middletown polo fields (just outside Newport). He told me that at one time he worked for the Morse family to train and bred their polo ponies. Then he told me how the “family” is going to buy the Padua Farm on Route 301 just north of Route 42. This is an 800 acre farm that has been for sale for the past three years. Just check this place out:
Padua Stables - Ocala Horse Farm | OUTRAGEOUS LUXURY
The farm is values at over 35 million but the family is getting it for just over 12 million. He claimed the family is then going to move the whole polo operation from the Villages to the farm . . . allowing them to then build on the land where the current polo fields are located. (They also own more land in back of the polo grounds. He said they may even move all the families over to the new farm and use all their current lands on 466 as development . . . they could build at least 2,500 more home if they do this. (that would be about a quarter of a billion dollars in profit)
So my question is, has anyone heard any rumors down there?

I have recently heard some rumors but will wait till I get some kind of confirmation before I comment.

I do know that they are slowing the southern movement. Seems the land they will buy is right next to Coleman Prison and they are waiting for all the inmates to turn 55.

I don't believe the "family" owns the Polo fields. The Polo Fields are private property owned by individuals nice enough to let people use them like the flying club, walkers, and the soccer club.

Hmmmm. Where does that info come from? In looking at the Sumter County tax records, the parcel listed as 1031 N Buena Vista Blvd is shown as owned by the Villages of Lake-Sumter; and the use description is 'AG Improved W/HX' - not sure of those codes! Notes on the property card indicate "E1/2 OF SW1/4 AND SE1/4 OF NW1/4 LESS THAT PORTION DEEDED IN OR 868 PG 357 (PARCEL 18 & 19)5 LESS THAT PORTION KNOWN AS D.W MATHEWS POLO FIELD PARCEL NO. D10=016 LESS E 410 FT OF S 200 FT OFS1/2 OF SE1/4 OF SW1/4 THEREOF"

And the parcel listed as 700 N Buena Vista Blvd [contingent to 1031] is shown as owned by the Villages of Lake-Sumter; and the use is described as 'Drive In Theatres, Open (03100)'. And this parcel shows as the one referenced above as Parcel No. D10=016.

Both properties have mailing address as 1020 Lake Sumter Landing, The Villages, FL 32162. If I read the cards correctly, both properties were sold/transferred fr Donald W Mathews, Individually and as Trustee to the Villages of Lake-Sumter way back on 1/31/2001. And the map on each site sure looks like the polo field property. And the properties behind what appears to be the polo field property is shown as owned by a private party.

What with the one property description listed as 'drive in, etc' - isn't that why/where the Villages used to hold an annual golf cart drive in movie night?

Fross & Fross occasionly sponsors a drive-in night at a portion of the polo field.

Since I have a hard time believing someone would sell land valued at 35 million for twelve million, I guess I shouldn't believe the rest.

Cisco Kid 06-02-2015 05:53 PM

I can confirm this is a rumor that may or may not be true.

That's pretty definite, thanks for the confirmation.

And he could always incorporate the prison and market it as "Florida's Friendliest Prison" for retiree age prisoners.
