Golf cart road rage altercation
My wife and I were in the car headed north on Morse Blvd around 4:25 pm today and as we came to a stop for the red light at the intersection at Rio Grande we witnessed a shocking and sad incident. Two golf carts were traveling north on Morse and one had moved into the right turning lane and the other was in the golf cart lane going straight. We didn't notice anything unusual until we heard the screech of tires as the cart going straight slammed on his breaks to avoid striking the cart in front of him. At the same time, the cart in the turning lane suddenly stopped right next to that cart and the driver jumped out and reached into the first cart and tried to grab and strike the driver. He was yelling something but we couldn't hear what they said. The driver being attacked jumped out of his cart and ran around in front of his cart and confronted the other man. They both raised their fists and the original aggressor took a couple of swings but the other man moved back and said something like "I don't want to fight" and "what did I do?" But the first man continue to be aggressive. The light changed and as we were pulling away (I couldn't pull over there) I could see them both rolling on the pavement. Other cars had stopped and we saw a police car coming down Morse so I assume it was stopped. Another case of apparent road rage gone bad. Very sad and disturbing to see this behavior on a public road here in TV.

Two old guys trying to fight..no wonder they ended up rolling around one the ground. .could not stay upright. .how sad they forget their age
|
Gee I wonder if anyone had been drinking?

I don't understand the positioning of those golf carts. I thought at an intersection all golf carts had to exit the golf cart lane and position themselves in the traffic lanes. So the one going straight in the golf cart lane... shouldn't he have been in the traffic lane going straight?
|
At Morse and Rio Grande it is a very different type of traffic pattern. There is a right hand turn lane for cars and carts and to the left of it is a golf cart lane to go straight. Its kinda confusing and very different than other streets in TV.

Too much TV! Sorry, I had to say that. Why can't we all just get along?

This is so sad.

And we're assuming this is golf cart rage. It could have just as easily been something between the two men that had been festering for awhile or something that occurred at a restaurant or bar. Who knows?
Regardless, what an ugly thing to have witnessed in TV. Sometimes we really don't live up to our image, do we? |

Look. It is shocking for a lot of us to see people hitting each other. I have never in my whole life witnessed a fight between two angry adults personally where they hit each other.

Unfortunately, golf cart road rage happens quite regularly in my quiet little area. We are close to a golf cart path in the area of Glenview CC and the language, the fingers being thrown, people screaming at each other, happens most days. The people who live opposite the golf cart cut through sit out and get their entertainment from the stupidity of the golf cart road rage! We are supposed to be adults!

TWICE I've had the "luck" to be verbally (abused) by individuals, swearing and yelling because the golf cart I was in, wasn't doing what they thought should be happening. One time it was because I was in a cart waiting, at a stop sigh, for heavy traffic to pass on the street but someone behind thought we should put our lives in peril just so he could continue on his way. The other time was because the golf-cart was going the legal speed (19.5.) while his was a souped up version and he thought he needed to be somewhere so he threw a tantrum in his "adult version" of swearing and name-calling and hand-flailing. I'm sure these folks would make their mom's proud with behaviours like that....not to say spouses, kids and grandkids!!

This is never good but happens more often than any of us would like to see. We can indeed safely assume there was probably some alcohol involved ...but what other factors explain this kind of idiotic behavior?? -- crotchety old people? -- some level of early dementia? -- used to driving a certain way in NYC or something? -- some people are just plain obnoxious? |

Not Golfer, I was in a similar situation, waiting at a stop sign to pull out in my golf cart when another golf cart didn't pause and went around me. I noticed he was a Yankee fan.

From another thread, it was suggested that carts have some kind of identification sticker to be able to report these kinds of incidents to the authorities. I, at first, thought this was an un necessary thing, now, I'm not so sure.

Put a bunch of rats in a small cage they will fight each other to the death. Not saying people are rats. Used to do that for entertainment on the farm.

The thing that really concerns me is the sheer ignorance that really does abound in TV. For some reason or other I got the impression that we were reasonably nice people, but unfortunately there is a huge slice of the population here who are not nice at all. They are rude, abusive and almost out of control. If any of you ever have to travel through the gate onto 101 passing the big white church on the corner, do you remember when a group of people took exception to the STOP signs which were painted on the posts at the driveways into and out of the church? Remember that every day TV would paint the STOP sign on the post and the "night" people would come along and paint over it, this happened night after night. Finally, TV had to put small metal plates on the posts which are screwed on and I even think they painted over them one night. This type of crazy thinking is far more prevalent than one would believe, it is beyond my comprehension.
I was under the impression the majority of us came here to get out of the rat race and to spend our retirement years living in the peace and quiet of this beautiful community - seems I was wrong. |
