Neighborhood Pool Restrooms

Tried to use the bathrooms at the Dunedin neighborhood pool and they were both occupied. After a while men came out of both restrooms and got into a landscaping vehicle. When I entered the ladies room it was filthy. My question is, are construction, landscapers and other trades permitted to use those facilities?

wudda1955 11-05-2014 12:52 PM

There is no lock on any gate, and they are public restrooms, why wouldn't they be allowed? Where else would they go? Call and complain about the "filthy" ladies room. I've seen the restrooms checked on a regular basis and have never seen one that could be described as filthy.

HMLRHT1 11-05-2014 03:19 PM

The restrooms are for anyone who is in need to use them.

D&Lsunfun 11-05-2014 04:02 PM

it is restroom. be thankful the workers use the proper areas and not the bushes and behind truck doors.
Unlike the homeowners that think the pool and mail station area is a public toilet for their dogs.
(which is not public area, owned by the developer, just as you own your property)

Happinow 11-05-2014 04:18 PM

I'm just thinking.....

My thought is that the pools are for villagers, correct??? The rest rooms are Inside the pool gate. Why would these rest rooms be made for the public when they are in the same gait as the pools? People who aren't Villagers aren't allowed to walk into the rec enters and use the rest rooms are they? It really makes no sense to me. While visiting another city, let's say St. Petes, and there is a planned community that has a pool with a fence around it with a pool house and rest rooms. Would you walk into that pool area and use the rest rooms??? I wouldn't have the nerve to do so. It's not my space. I don't believe anyone except people who live in The Villages and pay our amenity fees should be allowed to us the pool rest rooms. They should use the gas station or store rest rooms like other contractors do in other places. Not that I'm not grateful for their service, because I am. I just see that it seems wrong for everyone and his brother to use those facilities.

When you gotta go you gotta go. It's funny the only time you see these comments is when the BIRDS are back in their magical winter wonderland and it's their place and workers are peeing in their place. How date they. Lol

Bogie Shooter 11-05-2014 04:25 PM

Lets see............how many guards will we have to hire to monitor the restrooms??

jalopy54 11-05-2014 04:31 PM

if I had to go, villager or not I would go! Hell or High Water would not stop me!
( ! )

bkcunningham1 11-05-2014 04:35 PM

How would you know by looking at someone whether they own a house in TV or not? I mean, who is to say that the construction worker isn't an amenities paying, card carrying home owner?

joldnol 11-05-2014 04:41 PM

Dunedin's restrooms are used all the time (it's where the construction is happening)....my wife says at least they get to wash their hands, especially the food truck folks

Miles42 11-05-2014 04:54 PM

Why are men using the ladies room? Rig the rest rooms so they open with a owners card.

redwitch 11-05-2014 06:10 PM

Yes, visitors can use the rec center restrooms but the outdoor workers are considerate enough to not want to track their dirt indoors. As to using gas station restrooms, etc., maybe if there were public facilities closer than they are, the workers would be happy to use them. As has been said, using pool bathrooms certainly beats the alternatives.

gomoho 11-05-2014 06:11 PM

Actually Happinow does raise a good point? How do they use these restrooms when they are in the gated area? Guess another Villager is letting them in? Don't have a problem with it just wondering. Isn't it sad we have to explain ourselves to not get beat up at times?

tommy steam 11-05-2014 06:26 PM

I think the developer has agreed to let the workers use the rest rooms. It beats smelly port a potties all over the place.

theorem painter 11-05-2014 06:53 PM

We had a Century Link installer at our home yesterday. When he finished instead of asking to use our restroom he asked us where the closest pool was so he could use the restroom there. I offered ours but he declined. The installer told me that he used to ask to use the restroom from the homeowner but so many refused that he just stopped asking and now uses the one at the pool. I was a little surprised, to say the least.

Tamarind Grove neighborhood pool has a gate, but it is not a gate that requires a pass to open. It has a simple lift-latch. I believe all neighborhood pools have them. The bathroom(s) there are one person at a time facilities. If no one was there, perhaps one guy used the ladies' room rather than wait.

The country club pools (open to those with priority subscriptions) have an attendant and those entering must present their Villages ID for scanning. The bathrooms there have multiple stalls.

The sport pool I attend for aerobics classes (Laurel Manor) has a gate and an attendant, but the bathroom/shower areas are accessible without entering the pool. It was there I passed a guy exiting with his dripping dog. I suspect he washed his (large) dog in the women's shower.
The arrogance of that annoyed me. A worker using the loo is not a problem…. but someone leaving a 'filthy' mess behind is a different issue.

Amazing that some people would feel so far above another person that they would refuse him the use of their restroom. I mean, what makes them so "special"? It's okay to work in my house, but don't use my bathroom? What is this, a caste system? I hope karma evens things out.

kcrazorbackfan 11-05-2014 07:24 PM

theorem painter, you'll really be surprised when someone you offer to let use you bathroom robs you without you knowing it. I'm retired law enforcement, my wife is a SSA with DOJ and my son is KCPD Swat; service people that come in our homes are let in, watched while they do the job and then escorted out - no time for small talk means no time to look your home over.

skip0358 11-05-2014 07:35 PM

Yes they can and do use the rec center bathrooms. Where pray tell would you like them to go?

Same thing happened to me when a worker came into my house. It reminded me of the segregated bathrooms in the south. I didn't understand the whole thing while we were vacationing. My parents explained it to me and they didn't understand why either but said that's how it was down there.

Don't use my amenity fees to put some silly card system on restroom doors.

I would hate to live my life being so suspicious of people. We assume the people we have work in our home are honest, because we deal with reputable companies. To treat them like they are all potential criminals "casing out our bathroom" is absurd.

I had always assumed that too until an air conditioning repairman used my bathroom and left with my jewelry. Workers can still use my restroom but I first go in and make certain I have left nothing of value in there.

zonerboy 11-05-2014 09:05 PM

Just had new laminate flooring installed in our CYV. The guy doing all the work is a Village home owner.
I have no problem with various workmen ( or work women) using the restrooms at the pools. Just as long as they don't actually jump in the water without showering first.

Well, of course there are certain precautions to take.

jimmy D 11-05-2014 09:22 PM

I AGREE with you. You swim and here they come. They do mess up the restrooms and I think if you have to go. then go but not at the pools.

KathieI 11-05-2014 09:27 PM

In MY bathroom, there would be nothing to steal but toilet paper, lol.

Within the past few months, with 2 houses having work done on them, I've had quite a few asking to use my facility and I would never dream of saying no... this way they will work longer and harder and not take breaks... LOL. there's a method to my madness.

sunnyatlast 11-05-2014 09:35 PM

Even gas stations and truck stops lock the restrooms so people can't hide out in there and do drugs or have sex, and they require restroom users to ask for a key.

I think it's risky business and highly offensive to allow transient construction workers to use a neighborhood family pool bathroom where little girls and boys go in to use the potty. They could be molested, kidnapped, etc.by some weirdo waiting in there.

And the filth that was left was probably mud made by workboots caked with dirt that mixed with dripped pool water from swimmers.

These are not public toilets. We pay amenities fees for them to use and to have them clean and safe.

We're not suspicious of all people, just cautious. Most, not all, of the people we have dealt with throughout our careers are the dregs of society. My wife and I have both arrested son's and daughter's of people we arrested years ago.

Have you ever given thought to what is mainly left in bathrooms? Jewelry and prescription drugs. It's not hard to stuff them in their pocket when flushing the toilet. Stay safe.

Indy-Guy 11-05-2014 10:45 PM

I pulled up to a golf course restroom and a golf cart was sitting in front of it and both restrooms were in use. A lady came out of the ladies and then another lady came out of the men's.

I smiled and asked her if she had put the seat up. Then we both laughed and both ladies were laughing as they drove away.

Pointer 11-05-2014 11:59 PM

I have no problem with anyone who needs a bathroom using the nearest one they could find. It's a basic often urgent need. One of the things that I liked about TV is that there are bathrooms all over. This isn't a gated community we have no right to deny anyone access, and we invite the workers here to do us a service. Why would we deny anyone the use of a facility who needs it. And why would you keep jewelry and drugs in a guest bath? I'm just not used to this kind of us vs them spirit. It's not like anyones getting out alive.

We have been traveling on three-day road trips back and forth from the north to Key West and to here since 2004, and I have yet to encounter a locked restroom. they are all inside the gas stations now and not locked.

If there is a construction worker using your pool restroom and it makes you nervous to have your children in there, go in with them or have them wait till the worker is done. For heaven's sake, we've had more problems with our own Villagers exposing themselves and doing drugs at pools than any construction workers. These people have families of their own. Whatever would make you think they are all perverts waiting to harm our children? Geez.

There's a heck of a lot of lawn mowing and construction renovations going on in The Villages on a daily basis.
If the public were denied use of pool rest rooms, I can only imagine the residents' belligerence in complaining about the ugly portapotties scattered throughout TV.
Come on people, get real, what do you expect these workers to do?

If you would rather they P on your lawn, just put up a sign workers please P here

Both my husband and I were probation officers for 35 years so we certainly are not naive when it comes to service people in our home. I would never be home alone with a service person or would I allow them to use our bathroom unescorted.
