Villages ladies packing??
I have a question for the fine people on TOTV. Recently there was a posting on Facebook regarding carrying guns. I'm not looking for any nasty comments. I'm just concerned about a statement that a person posted and I want to know if any of you believe it to be true. If it is true, it bothers me tremendously. I don't like the idea of drunk ladies "packing" a gun in their purse. I will quote exactly what was posted. By drunk, I am referring to the squares, not the stores. This is the quote:
"Most of the woman I know in TV carry a gun (packing) in their purse in the squares, Walmart, supermarket...drug store...movies...maybe that is why you feel so safe in TV. You have no idea who has a gun and who doesn't. You live in the south. It is for your safety as well as theirs. No one advertises that they are packing, but I assure you if you believe that most Villagers, especially retired military don't have a gun, you are very very naive" I am only curious if this "lady" is off her rocker or if you believe that there are a lot of females with pistols in their purses? Opinions? ......and Gracie, I don't mean water pistols. :) |
I tried finding the quote in Facebook. Could you point me to the page?
|
I think most likely there are a few. I doubt the percentage is disproportionate to anywhere else. That's just my opinion of course.

If a resident has a concealed carry permit, or a concealed carry from a state that has reciprocity with Florida there is no reason why they can't carry a handgun. The purpose of concealed carry is just that.....concealed. As long as they follow the laws there shouldn't be any problem. The remainder of the population wouldn't even know it

I guess maybe this person who made the statement hangs out with the same personality type as she is, so it would make sense that most everyone that she associates with carries a weapon in their purse. |

To answer your question, I have no idea. |
We can't run, we can't fight anymore & we represent vulnerabality-- therefore;we carry
|
Has anyone read about any "drunk ladies" going Jessie James and popplng off a few rounds. I'm more worried with drunk drivers. I like the idea of citizens carrying.

Villages ladies packing??

GA - Why do you question? It's a constitutional right. If your assumption is that everyone who associates with an individual who has a CWP, has a CWP also, seems a strange extrapolation to me. Have I misunderstood you? |
I think it's great people in the villages are armed. It helps keep the crime down. I would hate for everyone to think with all the senior citizens live there it's easy picking. I am sure it makes criminals a little uneasy knowing they get caught committing a crime in the villages and they could end up looking like swiss cheese.

I think the moderator should probably put this thread to bed. Too many gun righters need to comment. That's not what I was looking for. Carry on....after all it's your right. :) |
So is the assumption that you are ok with drunk men packing?
|

I'm not ok with anyone drunk having a gun on there person or purse. |
I don't know the answer to this question.
How many innocent bystanders or guilty perpetrators have been shot by Villagers? There are many things to worry about that we know about first hand. |

I apologize if you thought I was being pushy. I just wanted to understand your point And I guess I do from your comment "unlike a lot of you"... I thought a simple question might be answered simply as well. There was no political intent to my post. |

There's quite a lot of responsibility that accompanies a concealed weapons permit. I doubt there are many "drunk men packing". But then again, there's always the bad guys. |

Not a good thing to carry in your purse-carry on your person--also if you have any alcohol in your system & you're caught-you're in deep poop
|
There are some women in TV that carry. In my circle of friends, I think I'm the only who does. If I think I'm going to have so much as one beer or glass of wine, my Glock is left at home or locked in the trunk of a car. My biggest concern with folks in a community such as TV carrying is the fear they will continue to carry if dementia or Alzheimer's begins. The combination of reduced mental faculties, anger issues involved with these diseases and a handy weapon is not a good combination to my mind.

something posted on TOTV! |
Try asking some of your friends what they think about CC. You may be surprised who will say they do. Think of all the retired LEOs living in TV. Likely most of them CC. Think of all the Floridians that live here. A large portion of them probably CC. It's part of the culture in the south. Your concern regarding carrying drunk is valid. I'm sure it does happen just like drunk driving. I'm also pretty sure there are a lot of unauthorized CC going on around here.

Women know what their friends do. Men don't share things like that but women do. No one in my circle of friends carry, but some neighbors have been trained to use a gun and own one. This is new to me. Only people who hunted owned guns that I knew growing up. I was very glad they were armed when the break in's started last year about this time. I do want to add for the benefit of any new readers that only in one instance were their people in the house and that was at night and the villagers were unaware of anyone entering.(AND they had a dog) Some of the bad guys gained entry by kicking in the front door in broad daylight or removing a slider in the back...also during the day. I think they watched the homeowners leave. |
Quite frankly I do not know the answer to this.
I also do not believe the original person who authored the quote does not know either. It was stated that "most of the women she knows. . . " which tells us nothing. There are a lot of people who post on here who either hear something or have feelings about something that state it is the truth. Just read all the posts about when the build out will be, what stores are coming here etc. etc. IF you carry and IF you consume alcohol you are in violation. I believe the OP on this post was merely asking a question and shouldn't be jumped on. |

Very few that carry advertise. More women than men have conceal permits at work

It made sense after I thought about it. She dealt with a lot of unsavory issues before she retired and her husband didn't. |
The Villages Straight Shooters conducts a Basic Pistol Course once a moth. The Basic Pistol course is 8 hours of training. This course goes far above the amount of information and training you wold receive at a gun show.
The next class is Oct 12th. The class on November 11th is a LADIES ONLY Class. Basic Pistol Safety - The Villages Straight Shooters Club should get you to the sign up page of The Straight Shooters. |
.....so a drunk female carrying is questionable however no mention of a drunk man carrying... hmmmmmm.

Most of the gentlemen I see in The Villages wear tee type shirts and khaki type pants. How would they conceal?

Things like that never make me want to jump on them. I have always felt equal and see no reason to challenge that premise. |

I always agree with people who have a gun. I mean, I never have had to...but I would given the opportunity. |

But asking a woman if she carries a concealed weapon - isn't that a bit like asking a man if he wears a toupee? |

No ...more like if he he's had a vastectomy. But as Boomer says. I digress. I think it is fun to digress. We have talked about this stuff so often before outlaw arrived. |
