Caroline Kennedy Hosts Early Vote Gathering for Change

Wednesday, October 29 3:45 PM Savannah Center (The Villages, FL)
Listen to Caroline Kennedy speak at the Savannah Center! Doors open at 3:45 pm.

Guest 10-27-2008 06:51 AM

Thanks for the head up Cassie!

Guest 10-27-2008 09:01 AM

It's Amazing!

It is completely baffling to me that this didn't get more press. Caroline Kennedy is going to be speaking at The Savannah Center, this Wed. and NOTHING in the newspapers. I called Savannah Center and they say THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY INFORMATION! How one sided can this get!

When that idiot Sarah Palin was here you'd have thought it was the "second coming". :yuck:

OK, I'm originally from an urban area and you can call me an "Elitist" if you want to, but this is just wrong! You can talk about Chicago until hell freezes over, but at least we were informed when opposing candidates or events were occurring.

:cus:

Guest 10-27-2008 09:05 AM

I read this in the Ocala paper, The Star Banner. She's supposed to be speaking at 4:30pm on Wednesday at Savannah center.

Guest 10-27-2008 09:17 AM

This is so typical of The Villages. They'll do anything they can to smother anything except the Republicans.

Guest 10-27-2008 09:26 AM

Sigh!

You know, I love The Villages with all my heart and soul, but this is just creee-pay! It's really very disturbing politically. :ohdear:

Guest 10-27-2008 10:06 AM

I copied this off her web site. It is truely un-american to surpress info concerning the other major party and roll out the red carpet for your personal choice. What are they afraid of ??? How can any respectable newspaper print large pictures of Sara Palen on the front page for days and not even put a small announcement about Caroline Kennedy speaking here in the Villages. I guess I answered my own question.

THE VILLAGES — Caroline Kennedy, daughter of President John F. Kennedy, will be here Wednesday afternoon to campaign for Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential bid, according to Democratic Party officials.

Kennedy is scheduled to appear at the Savannah Center in The Villages, 545 Buena Vista Boulevard, at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday.

She was one of the first major Democrats to endorse Obama’s presidential bid earlier this year and will be the Party’s second national figure to appear in the area this week.

Sen. Joe Biden, the Democratic vice presidential candidate, will appear Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Dancing Horses Farm, 8711 W. SR 40, in Marion County.

Traditionally, Marion County and The Villages are Republican strongholds but polls indicate that Obama has a chance to win Florida. The race for the state’s 27 electoral votes is a toss-up, according to most polls.:yuck:

Guest 10-27-2008 10:22 AM

For those who doubted why the Daily Sun was rated as a poor paper, this should eliminate all doubts.

Now if Caroline Kennedy was one of the 3 comedians on Fox and Friends she would get the same type of press the Sun gave Steve Doocy prior to his book signing in TV on October 17.

It's actually quite surprising Ms. Kennedy is even allowed to use a Villages facility. Whoever sponsored it probably erroneously told the powers of TV Ollie North was showing up.

Guest 10-27-2008 10:28 AM

If palin can be referred to as an "idiot"....

then I have two questions.

One, what do we call the do nothing, tenured, whore mongering, cheating, lying, all for themselves, screw we the people incumbents in Washington?
And what do we call the permissive, pacifist, don't offend anybody, all is OK silent majority that continues to re elect them?

These are not partisan questions as both parties get equal billing for all the above +++++++.

They are rhetorical questions, that require no answer....just meant to be thought provocative when it comes to the 545 that have many, many, MANY more REAL faults. That just don't seem to matter to many. And as critical as some are of a selected few, I don't know how they pass up the ones who really need to be evaluated by we the people.

BTK

On another note, Sarah Palin has many admirable qualities. I expect she is the rising star in the Republican party and we will be seeing quite a bit more of her here in TV especially if she is NOT elected V.P.

She will probably be a 2012 contender.

Guest 10-27-2008 12:02 PM

Very Troubling

That is troubling. Caroline Kennedy coming to The Villages is NEWS. I thought the Daily Sun was a NEWS-paper. Gawd, I'm as Republican as one can get but this is awful. If my wife didn't enjoy looking at new home pictures I'd cancel our subscription. I would think that all subscribers will be VERY upset by such NEWS censorship. Need a sequel to Leisureville.

Guest 10-27-2008 12:07 PM

Well I feel bad that everyone is mad at TV's....that was not my intent.

I was upset that this was not printed in the paper...BUT more importantly I wanted all of you to know. I found it by mistake!

Actually I put a call into the local Democratic Committee to find out why they have not publicized this. They have a booth up at Market night for an entire month or so....and it should have been a topic they brought up to visitors...

anyway....we should expect it not to be in the paper for political reasons and that is their right....but it should have been listed as an event at Savannah Center...at the very least. Just my opinion....

Did not mean to upset anyone...sorry!

Guest 10-27-2008 01:29 PM

Anyone interested in going to Caroline Kennedy can RSVP on Obama website on the "Events" page. She'll be at Savannah Ctr. @3:45-5:45 Wed. 10/29 Host,Jocelyn Slowey 352 246-2921. And it's "typical" of the Daily Sun not to publicize anything that's not in their own interest!!

Guest 10-27-2008 01:45 PM

Everyone should send a email to the editor re; this (I just did) to let them know how that we know how biased they are.

Guest 10-27-2008 02:06 PM

It's things like this that are a blight on the reputation of the total Villages package. Wonder if WVGL will cover any of it. Boy, Neil Diamond would really be upset!

Guest 10-27-2008 02:55 PM

I agree with so many of these comments. I cannot believe someone of her stature is coming to The Villages and we hear nothing. On a different, but similar subject lately I have been seeing more and more Obama/Biden signs on golf carts and at homes. Thank Goodness! It is pleasing to know there are more than a few of us.

Guest 10-27-2008 02:56 PM

Partisans complaining about particism.....

if the local Dems org isn't publicizing it, where did y'all say the problem was?

Guest 10-27-2008 03:09 PM

I do not think they had much advance notice.

The various parties seem to be pushing their pieces where they will do the most good (get the most votes for their candidates).

I usually look at these as chess matches between the various handlers of the major candidates. I doubt if the people who are more in the spectator role in this match-- like local political organizers-- get a whole lot of notice as to who is coming and when.

Guest 10-27-2008 03:26 PM

Thanks for the info...I wish I was in town, I would love to see her. Since I am now an offical Villager I was going to subscribe to the local paper, but now I have decided I WILL NOT!

So... what did the Demo Committee say was the reason they had not publicized the info? And why doesn't the Savannah Center know that she is going to be there? There has to be some kind of communication glitch.

Maybe this is just a big rumor. That would make me feel a lot better than to realize Caroline Kennedy was coming to our community and The Daily Sun intentionally decided to not write about it.

This is not a rumor. She will be there. I did the R.S.V.P on the Obama site and received my confirmation. Caroline Kennedy has stayed out of politics and for her to get involved, stating she see's the hope that her father inspired, speaks volumes.

Helene, I see that you will be living in the Bonita Village... congrats, it's a lovely area! We just toured the area recently and thought it was great.

I also see there is a lot of indignation that the developer won't promote the opposition party in The Daily Sun. Mr. Peachie and I always start and stop the subscription of The Daily Sun when we are in town because we enjoy much of the information we derive from it's contents. We DO NOT, however, consider this a "newspaper" from which to gather hard news or event information of the Democratic Party. And most of the informed people in TV have a newspaper delivered in addition to The Daily Sun or read online additions of other news sources. (There is much bias in any newspaper, hard to find unbiased reporting these days).

So don't be afraid to enjoy The Daily Sun when in TV but realize as most of The Villagers do, it is an advertising piece for the developer with interesting articles and classified ads and not meant to promote political foes. We personally, would never read one news source for information, balance is always needed.

Enjoy your new home! :coolsmiley:

Oshunluva - I assume you forget her father and uncle were assassinated for their political beliefs and she grew up without a father except for Ted who stepped in as a surrogate. Oh, I forgot, they were not Republicans. As your sign off used to say - eradicate Democrats.

Thanks Peachie.....we are not there full time yet, but will be coming up at least once or twice a month. It seems like a real nice area and the neighbors that we have met are very nice. Still not sure about the Daily Sun though...;)

Since this information is not publicized in the local newspaper, it would be a nice gesture to at least put it on a sticky for TOTV readers to see.

To all of you who bash the local paper for being conservative or whatever else you may say...do you criticize the New York Times, The New York Daily News, The New York Post, The Chicago Tribune for any "bent" or leaning they have ???????

This paper of course is not in their league in so many ways, but even more reason to understand. Read and enjoy the Daily Sun for what it is worth...if you rely on it for all of your hard news then you are uninformed !! Why bash the paper !!!

And another thought, if everyone dislikes the fact so much that TV is a Republican stronghold, why not leave and live somewhere else so as to make room for more conservatives, only stands to reason.

I'm a conservative Republican. However, if I knew I was moving to a community where the "news"paper is whitewashed and censored I would have considered other golf communities in the sunbelt. I don't care what your political stance is.... when you grow up in America you read about news being censored in communist and other countries, not here. I still am hoping there is a reasonable explanation why this was not in The Daily Sun.

Guest 10-27-2008 08:39 PM

:agree::agree:

I love the paper! BUT....I read it knowing it is not going to give all of the information I am looking for....but that is why we have other papers...or the web....or the news....

When the front page headlines are about an angel in the neighborhood....or golf cart rally's....you get my drift.....

However....I thought it would have been of some significance to TV's to post this in the paper....I know they are a primarily republican based paper....but Caroline Kennedy is famous...regardless of how she got that way....she is famous...and it is going to be interesting to listen to her....

The Daily Sun....good and fun to read....keeps people in the bubble if that is where they want to be.....BUT this should be considered an EVENT in TV's at the Savannah Center...so therefore could have been printed....

IMHO....

Now we all know about it....and those that want to go can do so....and those that don't....we will surely let you know what you missed! ;)

The villages is strictly republican, the paper sells homes, it is privatly owned they can do as they please. We are not happy about it but thats the way it is.when obama is pres.it will not change anything in TV. Just enjoy what we have here.

It's difficult to grasp that you are a conservative Republican, rshoffer, if you have had no difficulty with the constant liberal skewering and controlling of the media regarding the promotion of the Democratic ticket but you are totally, totally outraged that a local, developer owned newspaper who is promoting his party will not give free publicity to the opponents. This response feels so out of kilter with your normally well-developed opinions of situations that it is strange to accept. And I had thought too, that Palin was announced very late in the game and maybe the same would be said for Schlossberg. Rather than fear you are being manipulated by The Daily Sun, why not subscribe to the Ocala or Orlando newpapers? But remember to allow for their slant also. And to everybody who does not yet understand, do read further than The Daily Sun for all of your hard news stories if you want a well rounded version of the same story.

AMEN...if anyone does not like the political ilk of the developer or his choice of news stories, CANCEL YOUR SUBSCRIPTION or ACCEPT THE PAPER FOR WHAT IT IS .....but stop the preaching !!!!

Guest 10-27-2008 09:59 PM

I think it's really sad and unfortunate that a city, village, or whatever we are, of 70,000, soon to be 100,000, does not have a news source that can report the news or even the upcoming events in an unbiased way. I have absolutely no problem with a newspaper leaning right or left, but that should be confined to the editorial or opinion pages. I realize that if we don't like it, we can subscribe to a newspaper from Ocala or Orlando or wherever, but we really don't have another choice of a paper if we want the local news. I love The Villages, but it is too bad that some people from the "friendliest" place can only offer a "love it or leave it" response. Wouldn't it be nice if we respected other people's opinions, even if they differ from ours.

Well, hit 'em straight. I'll see you in the shallow end of the pool.

It was especially annoying to me when I called the Savannah Center and they said they didn't know what I was talking about. Whose script were they reading from? Give me a break people. This is still America the last time I looked.!
