Golf cart dealers
Has anyone had any experience with Discount Golf Cart World - on 441 south of Lady Lake. They will build to specs. Says he's been in business 15 years.

I bought 2 carts from them in DEC 2006. "rebuilds"
1 was 2 seater - elec, 2003 Nice sunbrella covers; they threw in a mesh shopping back for back, and it had the usual mirrors & cooler (6pk) other 1 was 4 seater; with beautiful paint job, radio, overhead fan, hi-speed. Problem was the 4 seater wouldn't get me 5 miles before crapping out. They took it back 3 times trying to understand why but never figured it out and I understand they ended up tearing it apart and rebuilding it. IN EXCHANGE they gave me another 4 seater (2004) with hi-speed IQ motor, sunbrella cover (the original 4 seater didn't have any side curtains.). Anyway the 2 cost me $12k. They also offer a 5 year warranty as long as you do their semi-annual maintenance. They have a new young maintenance manager "Berlin" who has taken pretty good care of me. When I've needed light bulbs, as long as I want to make the trip there I've gotten them for free. I cracked a frame around a headlite and it really screws up the aim. He also gave me a new frame (but I have to put it in). When the brakes were 'acting up' on the 2 seater, they took care of it no charge. The batteries must've been pretty cheapo's tho' cuz on the 2 seater I need to replace them already (2 year, 2 months). I only get about 10-15 miles out of a charge. That's going to cost me $639 from Discount Golf Cart World. Personally, right now I'd buy one of the new EZGO RSV's if I only needed 1 cart. I think they're attractive and they're talking 60 miles per charge. Just remember, if you ride an electric wide open all the time that'll reduce the miles |
Hope it isn't the same person that owned K&H that closed down last month.
|
I also forgot to mention that a few months ago the GOLF CART CONNECTION advertised on this site and many members were very pleased with the service. You might want to visit them.

K & H relocated farther North on 441, as Freedom Carts. New name same game. Beware
|
Do yourself a favor - go to Golf Cart Connection. Across from the old WalMart on 27/441 but moving south soon down by Best Buy & Kohl's.

If you are interested in a good used cart call Jim Followell at cell # 317-258-1241 or home 352-259-7525. Jim buys the carts that are traded in at The Villages Golf Cart store as well as many of the other cart stores in the area. To learn more about Jim just do a TOTV search using his last name to see what the people here think of him.
Many people from TOTV use him to rent a cart from but he also sells used ones. |
I bought my cart from Discout Golf 4 years ago , I have not had any problems.

I bought a cart from Discount Carts about 6 months ago and have not had any problems. Just had my first maintenance with them and they came as scheduled. So far, so good!
|
We bought an EZ Go 4 seater in July 08 and have had numerous problems since mid November with 6 service calls- It loses power and dies. Maybe this time is was repaired correctly.

Bad service at Golf Cart Connection
We have had HORRIBLE experiences with Golf Cart Connection service and recommend you buy your golf cart somewhere else!!! They are SLOW to call you back, SLOW to service your golf cart, and SLOWER even yet once they have your golf cart in the shop. Ours was in for 2 weeks to have batteries replaced (a 1 year old cart), and one month later it has the same problems it did before the batteries were replaced. Repeated phone calls to them are rarely returned.

Golf Cart
I recently bought a cart from Grandpa and Grandmas Village Buggiies. THey are located north of EZ Go. Great carts, great service. Give them a try. Bought refurbished 2005 Club Car totally loaded gas for $5750. It is a beautiful cart and looks brand new, They are super friendly and dependable.
Scott is the owner. Hope this helps. Don Miller Hadley |

Golf cart dealer
Several of my friends and I bought our Yamaha cart at Carts & Clubs in Ocala and we all are very satisfied. They recently moved to a larger location on 27/441 south of Ocala just past the drive -in movie. Ted will build to your specs and his prices are lower than the Villages. He will take trade-ins and stands behind his product.

Is The Villages Golf Cart shop not mentioned simply because they're higher (I assume) than the other places mentioned? My husband and I were considering buying from them mostly for convenience. If we buy a golf cart from one of the other places mentioned here, how do you get service on your cart when the shop is so much farther away?
(We've just bought in TV, so we're new to all of these kind of questions and really appreciate your advice!) |

I have looked at Carts & Clubs in Ocala, and the answer to my questions above is No Charge for Pickup, or Labor for warranty related problems. It sounds like quick servicing as well. I'm still looking at other Yamaha dealers, but looking for answer to servicing. Thank You |
Bought my cart from Discount Golf Carts 2 years ago, great people to work with, prompt service when needed. Good prices

But I have also been checking out the new Tomberlin store on 301 south of 466. They are in the Plaza with Lucky-U Cycles. Nice carts and price looks real good. Also that Custom Carts in Odessa is a real good deal. I have been to that one. Great pricing also. |
They also go by the name Golf Carts Plus and the owner's name is Ken.

Town and Country Golf Cart Sales
We bought an EZGO Freedom Golf Cart from Town and Country a few months ago and we based our selection on some advise from coments made in TOTV.
It was good sound advise. We are happy with the cart and the service is terrific. We drive it in once a month and they check the water in the batteries, the tires and do little things at no charge, (e.g. installed license plate, etc.) A couple of months ago we had a problem with a little damage that required the back panel to be fixed and the back canvas cover to be replaced. All was done quickly, (sent parts back to the factory for repair, fixed it when they were returned and "no charge".) Just a thanks for coming in. It would be great if all business's treated their customers as well as we have been treated by Town and Country. |
After shopping around and feedback from TOTV, we decided to purchase from Carts & Clubs in Ocala. The price by comparison to The Villages Golf Cart was a savings of approximately $1000, that's comparing apples to apples. You are dealing directly with the owners Ted & Connie Dunlap customer service oriented and personable. Their is no loss of convenience of service after your purchase. They make scheduled stops in The Villages Tues & Thurs and as demand requires. We purchased the 2009 Gas Yamaha, Beautiful cart. Very very happy with cart and dealer:clap2:
Also as mentioned in a few postings, we would advise you to stay away from Freedom Carts, formally know as K & H Cart before moving farther North on 441. |
No special recommendations on where to buy but one on where NOT to buy. There are a coupla "shade tree mechanics" at Market of Marion offering golf carts and I would avoid those places like the plague. If all they can afford for their business is a rented stall at M of M, what kind of service can you expect?

Hello Everyone,
We just closed on a house in Duval. I am planning to come down at the end of May. How do I start looking for a good dependable Golf Cart? What are the pros and cons of buying new or used? aln ...what is a EZGO RSV's Thanks... |
IMHO pay for the service and peace of mind---> The Villages Golfcart dealership.
This board is filled with one horror story after another with many flim-flam dealers around here. |
Par Car
Stay away from them the service is awful!!!!!!!!!!!
they over charge and do not keep their word!!!!!! I'm selloing mine!!!!!!! |
I installed a bicycle odometer on my electric, 6 month old, cart so I know it will do 42 miles of high speed, long distance driving before coming to a halt. I expect it might go further if it was a number of shorter trips. While 42 miles is quite respectable, I would caution that all these vendor claims of 50 and 60 miles are just marketing hype and should not be believed until they are proven.

is it easy to put a bike speedometer on a golf cart?
I think they're pretty costly, dealer installed |
The only real trick to installing a bicycle speedometer on the cart is attaching the pickup and magnet. I bent a heavy duty paper clip and attached it to the inside of a lug nut in order to form the "spoke" to which the magnet clamps. Then I used nylon cinch ties to hold the pickup unit in the right position and ran the wires up to the dash.
You can measure the circumference of your golf cart tire with a tape measure in order to program the speedometer for your specific cart. Most instruction kits don't expect such a small wheel but mine seemed to program OK. |
Canabarrybob, very interesting, thanx!
|
Canwego2 - the EZGO RXV is run via an AC motor which gives better drive torque on hills and such, also is supposed to go 60 miles on a charge.
Cavaman here bought one and there's an old thread on it, he seems happy. You may want to test drive and consider one. All sorts of talk on carts here, Golf Cart Connections gets a lot of press on their remanufactured Club Cars, they've got an interesting website. Good luck. |
Bought a new Yamaha electric when we first moved in last July and then shopped around three months later for a 2nd cart. Ended up with the E-Z-GO electric and wished I had shopped for the first one. E-Z-GO has it all over the Yamaha. On inclines the Yamaha slows down some and is even worse with two people and two sets of golf clubs. The E-Z-GO keeps a steady pace up or down. The E-Z-GO has become on main source of transportation.
|
Thanks spk7951 for your direct experience in comparing the Yamaha and Ezgo. I tested the Ezgo, Yamaha, and ParCar electrics on the steep bridge over 441 before buying the Ezgo. Like you I found that the Ezgo did the best on hills. But it really helps to have feedback from someone who owns both.
