I see David L finally apologized
On the radio this morning they were saying can you imagine the fallout if DL made that comment about the Obama family. I thought to myself I think he knows better. Obama would make the show take TARP money, he’d fire DL and replace him with a comedy czar.

Think about it: If your in the business to attract people for money (advertisers) why would you turn-off 50% of your audience? That is positive proof that the network has an agenda. The same with the movies....Hollywood made around 8 anti-war movies during the Bush years. They all lost money in the theaters. Apparently, making money and capitalism were not their driving force. Johnny Carson must be shaking his head and rolling his eyes. Both sides of the aisle could laugh at his jokes. |

What was said is ok because someone on the "other side" said something ! Simply amazing ! |

Why would I want to see it ? What would be the reasoning for anyone to go and see it ? Letterman is an idiot....the others you mention are idiots and although you are a party gal...it does not matter the party...those who say these stupid inane things are just plain stupid and it does not matter their politics ! Why you would defend Letterman with a comeback about....what the others guys did is simply amazing ! |

I didn't see or read what he said or how he apologized, I just think its disgusting, no matter which side you are on, to talk about people's families or the way they look. Its rude and uncalled for. Matter of fact, I haven't thought Letterman has been funny for years and I never equated it to his politics, he just ISN'T funny!
A few years back, Richard Simmons was on his show, and Richard's mother had just past away. Well, Letterman was so rude to him about, you had a mother?, and other stupid jokes, that it made Richard cry. Now, I am not a Richard Simmons fan, but I just try to treat each and every individual the way I would want to be treated, and he was disgusting and rude. I never watched that show again, nor will I ever. That's my 2 cents. Oops, am I in political? Boomer, get me outta here. Its past my bedtime. |
Really, agenda and activist? Some sort of buzz words? When Sarah Palin started parading those kids around during the campaign, they, unfortunately, were made fair game by HER! Of course, your immediate remarks that if it were something about Obama everyone would be up in arms. He didn't parade around a pregnant 17 year old like Palin did to use for HER agenda that this girl is a poster child against abortion. She certainly wasn't a poster child for "just say no!" Just admit it, a politician is just that, a politician! They would use their own mothers to forward their agendas. If a television personality makes a poor joke, then chide the jokester and don't support his programming anymore. Why is it a political conversation to begin with?

And I thought, "Heeeeere I come to saaaave the daaaay!!! Boomer is on her waaaaay." Kathie! Kathie! Kathie!! Picture me with the cyberhook!!!! I am dragging you out of here. I only come in on the full moon mostly. But I am here to drag you out. I do not know what Letterman said either. Do not even think about Letterman. Letterman is from Indiana. You would think he would have good sense and manners. He went to Ball State I think. He was in a class with a friend of mine. (Or was that Jane Pauley?? Or was that the Garfield guy????) Letterman has been making my skin crawl for a few years and so I never watch him anymore. He is past his prime. I hate to say that. Because he was in a class with a friend of mine. My friend is not past his prime. Oh nooooo. I am babbling. (I don't like Palin either. She caused me to break up with John. Had to write that Dear John letter. Ohhhh, I am babbling bad. It is after midnight.) Kathie!! Kathie!! Here comes the cyberhook. It comes for you. Boomer |

I was having the exact same thoughts but you said them better even if you were up too late. I especially agree that someone from Indiana should have better manners. We Ohio and Indiana people generally have excellent manners up to right before we kill you. |

But now a days you can spin anything into a political debate.. |

There’s one thing the main stream left has always done very well. Viscous personal attacks and character assassination by the political and media attack dogs. Both sides do it but left takes it to a whole new level. If you have opposing political views they will rip you apart limb from limb including your kids spouse and anyone else close to you.
Look at what the left wing media did to Joe the Plumber. It wasn’t two days after his conversation with OB that the drive by media started to rip him apart including investigating his tax returns, his business, personal life and anything else they could dig up. All because of a simple question he asked. At the time he was a nobody. What did Sarah Palin ever do to anyone? She was nothing more than a VP candidate and Governor of Alaska. To this very day left wing talking heads, Hollywood personalities, comedians, news reporters, etc are still hammering away at her. I think I know why though. She’s a Christian Conservative mother who happens to be a very popular Governor and to the left that make her the anti-Christ. Miss California was asked a direct question about her personal views on marriage. Career over. Fact is, if you are a Christian Conservative especially in politics and oppose OB and his left-wing henchman, you better get ready because they will come after you and your family too. The left always accuses the Republications of being intolerant. The truth is I think liberals especially liberals in government and media are some of the most intolerant angry people I have ever seen. Cross them and you better get ready because if it doesn’t fit their ideology, they will do everything possible to silence and discredit you. The media double standard is unbelievable. |
These days you can start a political debate/argument by saying "it sure is a nice day today".
It would veer off into global warming, whether or not it was nicer when someone else was president, will it be nicer in the future when we get rid of the current pres. etc., etc. |

It has been my observation when an individual can't support a position with facts or just render an opinion on the subject matter, the comments turn political because that's where the individual is an "expert" of their agenda. Getting back to DL, as a women and mother I am very offended by DL's comment about Palin's young daughters. Even though Palin's daughters are in the public eye, he definitely crossed the line. Palin's acceptance of DL's apology and the comments Palin made in support of her acceptance of DL's apology are admirable. |
mac9, it's ok when Chelsea was paraded around, she was off limits, the Bush daughters were not, the Obama daughters are off limits, Palin's are not. Are you blind? Why is there a double standard? Imus gets fired for a stupid remark that didn't come close to the vile crap from Letterman. I don't care if Palin's daughter was 30, to infer that she was a slut, got knocked up at a ball game should be grounds for dismissal. Just like Imus, just like Nick the Greek. Because Palin's kids were on stage with her makes them fair game? Obama's daughters were also paraded around the stage. Does that make them fair game? And how about Brittany Spear's 14 year old sister who when she became pregnant was featured in a lengthy People Magazine article that described how beautiful the occasion was. Why is it a political conversation to begin with? Because your compatriots made it so.
|
No, JJ, I am not blind. They are all fair game if the parents chose to make them public figures. Comparing Brittany's sister to Palin's daughter is ludicrous. Brittany's sister is in show business. Publicity is publicity. Ad people are paid to get things in the news. I saw the clip of DL's remarks. The word slut was never used. As to the Bush daughters, I believe only the one who chose to drink underage and make a fool of herself was publicly chided. Give it a break already.
|
Oh I see every thing clearly now. If Obama takes his daughters to a baseball game and the next day Rush says that a baseball player raped one or both of Obama's daughters during the 7th inning stretch, we should all laugh and giggle and say " old Rush said a good funny today, huh? heheheheheh"
|
Al Gore's son had several missteps, but that was given very little attenton. Cheslea Clinton had some drinking episodes, but did you ever see anything in the MSM about them??? Double standard. NAH!!!
|
Keedy, I'm glad to see that you too think that Rush is a comedian!

You know what they say when you get in a urinating contest

Never mind COLOGAL....I found the story !!!
Seems an aide to a state senator in Tenn sent this using the wrong email from and to and the state senator is being called upon to fire this aid, which is the right thing to do. However it hardly comes even close to "a picture circulated by the GOP." However, if your logic was used imagine how those in 2006 who flooded Virginia with lies about voting on armor for the troops to defeat Allen....or in 2004 when the ACTUAL DEMOCRATIC party sent out phoney emails in a game of gay baiting. Of course both parties do it but you can only see ONE side as always, and again the point of this thread was that a SITTING PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES...A PRESIDENT...after 5 months in office made a statement about a network not supporting what he wants to do. Dont even know if it is true but having a PRESIDENT make this statement TWICE in 5 months is pretty newworthy ! |

Now you know that does not count Keedy ! THAT is ok....for some folks the party is before everything ! |

Edit....Not you Bucco...I have the wrong quote up there... |
I have deleted three posts that contained the picture.
We will not publish it on Talk of The Villages. Tony |

I believe this thread started about the joke that Letterman made. I just made the comment about the GOP picture and comments about Michelle Obama. Why are you all upset about those? Then the comment was made that I deleted a post....so I posted the picture circulated by the GOP. It was a racist picture that should not have been created much less sent out. So I get from this that bad jokes on Late Night TV should not be made but racist pictures are ok...... |

You continually harp on party party party.....what is your point PLEASE ! Both parties and celebs do stupid things...we all know that. Why must you always try to "keep score" ? |

A racist picture sent by private email is ok? That explains it. |
