Huge increase - Foremost golf cart insurance

When i purchased a new golf cart last year the cost for insurance thru Foremost was $153. I got a renewal notice in the mail today and the price for same coverage jumped to $208. That is a 35.9% increase. No claims from my end. Anyone else with Foremost seeing this kind of increase? Can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative?

asianthree 06-05-2020 06:32 PM

State Farm, $115. went down $7.

blueash 06-05-2020 06:45 PM

How many of your neighbors have gotten new roofs on their golf carts because of weather damage? I hear something like that is going around.

OrangeBlossomBaby 06-05-2020 06:47 PM

We switched to Allstate since our car insurance is with them and we get multiple-vehicle and multiple-coverage discounts (since golf carts aren't considered automobiles, it's a different type of insurance). We were paying somewhere around $180-something, now we're paying something like $140-something. Not a LOT of difference, but it's a few nights of going-out-to-dinner money we wouldn't have had otherwise.

EdFNJ 06-05-2020 08:57 PM

Posting how much you were billed doesn't mean much unless you also post your exact coverages. Just got a quote from Allstate for $112 for full coverage and Progressive for $108 (took Progressive, I have a grudge against Allstate from 30+ years ago plus they were $1200 more than GEICO for my auto insurance).

Progressive Coverage includes (same coverages were quoted for Allstate for $112:

Bodily Injury Liability:$ 250,000 each person $500,000 each accident $24.00
Property Damage Liability: $100,000 each accident $12.00
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist: $25,000 each person $50,000 each accident - Nonstacked $12.00 (def don't need this but for $12 wtf)
Medical Payments: No Coverage $0.00
Enhanced Injury Protection: No Coverage $0.00
Comprehensive: $100 deductible $25.00
Collision: $250 deductible: $35.00
Roadside Assistance: No Coverage $0.00
Carried Contents®: No Coverage $0.00
Accessory coverage: 3,000 (included) Included
Total rate for this vehicle: $108.00 (paid up front) for 12 months

If I paid monthly it was like $33 more for the year. Did it all online in 10 minutes.

If you have had any accidents, claims, tickets or lousy credit on ANY POLICY you rate can be much higher. I have none of those.

Sometimes people don't consider how their rates will change with any claim and how it will affect any other policy they have. You'd be surprised how a $200-$300 comp claim on a golf cart even if you are not at fault can affect your auto and/or homeowners next renewal due to your insurance score. Sometimes it pays to just let it be unless the damage is severe. That's why when they ask on insurance apps if you have had ANY claims even if not at fault and it's easy to get a free copy of your CLUE report to see what they have on you from Lexis-Nexis.

Should have same limits as Bodily Injury. UM in Florida protects you if injured in accident by an uninsured or underinsured driver. Covers pain and suffering, rehabilitation, temporary nursing home and death that tradition health insurance does not cover. Worth the few extra $$. Lots of uninsured and underinsured drivers.

sjeffries 06-06-2020 04:52 AM

Mine increased $68 with Foremost too. Not aware of any other companies that cover golf carts.

sjeffries 06-06-2020 04:55 AM

My insurance increased by $68 as well with Foremost.
I am not aware of any other insurance company that will cover golf carts.
I have had no claims in 15 years.

ppmgb@me.com 06-06-2020 04:56 AM

We lower the value of the cart each year because obviously it depreciates every year.

bpayne 06-06-2020 04:57 AM

Progressive

Under $100. Less if you combine with house or car.

mike1946 06-06-2020 04:59 AM

My Allstate was $60

bhferri85 06-06-2020 05:10 AM

Progressive through USAA. $98/year.

sdeikenberry 06-06-2020 05:16 AM

I ask my broker to look at rates annually. It's not uncommon that they will switch me to a different company based on rates and coverage. It pays to shop around each year. The insurance companies rely on you not shopping, and just pay the bill.

Jimbo120 06-06-2020 05:20 AM

Same price here

Tom52 06-06-2020 05:33 AM

OP here, as a follow up to some of the comments, questions. My credit score is well over 800, zero claims for many years on home or auto insurance. Some coverages on Foremost policy:

Bodily injury $250,000 ea person $500,000 ea acc.

Property damage $100,000

Medical payment $5,000 ea person

Uninsured motorist $250,000 ea per, $500,000 ea accident

Collision not to exceed $14,200 less $500 deductible

Other than collision not to exceed $14,200 less $500 ded.

wsachs 06-06-2020 05:55 AM

$112 with Allstate

Bruce Carlson 06-06-2020 06:19 AM

$140/yr for 2018 Yamaha gas cart and $110/yr for 2015 Yamaha gas cart with State Farm.

noslices1 06-06-2020 06:27 AM

My Golf Cart Ins bill isn’t due for a couple months, but last year State Farm was only $112.00. Try them.

dbressette1 06-06-2020 06:28 AM

Go thru your car insurance company, much cheaper

bmit16 06-06-2020 06:35 AM

Dod you go through The Villages insurance? I noticed when I was eith them after the 1st year each one of my policies went up drastically. I dropped them and went with Progressive. Everytime I added something I got a bigger discount. Eventually I got my golf cart, car, motorcycle and then home all switched to Progressive. I have to have all high limits to meet the minimums for my umbrella policy. I am saving about 600.00 over the Villages policies now.

Twoprecise 06-06-2020 06:48 AM

Switched from Foremost

My Foremost policy went up to $192 with no claims or change in coverage. Switched to State Farm and with same coverage it is less than $100.

merrymini 06-06-2020 07:02 AM

Progressive $80 With lots of coverage and with Progressive homeowners. I had Foremost, a Farmers company, and my rate was $180. Dropped them last month.

shortstack 06-06-2020 07:07 AM

We cancelled Foremost and are now with All State.I suggest that you shop aground fur better rates. They are out there.

JimJohnson 06-06-2020 07:08 AM

Foremost $186.00, went to my insurance lady and she canceled Foremost and got me progressive for $70.00. Same exact coverages. Foremost casting fools bait in hopes of getting a guppie.

Pedrocarrasco01@yahoo.com 06-06-2020 07:16 AM

gwelmen 06-06-2020 07:19 AM

Progressive is cheaper and offers roadside assistance. I switched to them.

biker1 06-06-2020 07:26 AM

Our Foremost policy also increased substantially in cost, about 25%. We switched to Progressive and the saw a drop in the cost from the previous year's Foremost policy.

I just renewed mine with the Villages Insurance Co for my 2016 Yahama for $74.00 a year.

caljeff 06-06-2020 07:39 AM

Check out Progressive. Mine is $70.00 for very basic coverage.

Sunflower33 06-06-2020 07:41 AM

I have mine thru Allstate and I don’t pay that for 2 carts. Mine has gone up in the past years but only a few dollars

sjlarsen1 06-06-2020 07:43 AM

Cart Insurance

Ours went down to $124 (from $199). 2017 Cart. Progressive.

All insurance companies will be raising premiums, as a result of having to pay claims as a result the recent destruction from looting and property damage, as well as business interruption claims due to COVID-19. In Florida we’re looking at an active hurricane season, in which insurance companies, need to insure sufficient reserves (money) to pay out claims.

SacDQ 06-06-2020 07:45 AM

I have the same insurance company on my Street Rod and the increase was only 1.5%. You might want to call the for an explanation on such a large increase.

Bewalcla 06-06-2020 07:46 AM

Same happened to us, I switched to Progressive! Great policy, less $$

USAA has nothing to do with Progressive!

Guitarman1951 06-06-2020 07:55 AM

I have Foremost. I had it for years at less than a hundred dollars then it jumped way up and I went to Progressive for less but then it went way up so I switched back to Foremost for $110. Based on what you said guess my renewal next month is going way up again. A game they play to entice you to change I suppose.

mabgo1 06-06-2020 07:56 AM

I have Foremost. When I bought my new cart last year but was $134. I haven't got this years yet, but I will be on the look out for it niw

024engine 06-06-2020 08:02 AM

I have my cart insured through my home owners, which is Geico for $100.00 per year.
