Do you think pro sports are dead?

Pro basketball teams refuse to play in protest of a racial event. Right now, it's both basketball and baseball. Not sure what will happen when football season starts.

So, are you tired of the activism in pro sports? Have you stopped watching?

You have to admit... golf continues to "fly underneath the radar." I haven't seen anyone on the pro circuit wear a "BLM" shirt. In fact, none of the pro golf players are jumping into this controversy.

I love this. They are just playing the sport they love and we just get to watch it. Sigh...

👎👎👎👎 no longer watch pro sports. I’m tired of hearing the thug millionaires talk about “oppression”.

fishon 08-27-2020 04:56 AM

I hope pro sports aren’t dead. What else can those knuckle heads do?

Tommyc6 08-27-2020 05:10 AM

We are done with baseball & basketball.

Fredman 08-27-2020 05:19 AM

Never did watch pro basketball

JGVillages 08-27-2020 05:20 AM

Don’t hear them talking about stopping the violence within the supposed non violent protests.

Dzurinko 08-27-2020 05:39 AM

Hopeful

In response to the title: Do you think pro sports are dead? My response is: I can only HOPE SO!

Stu from NYC 08-27-2020 06:09 AM

Hopefully they will soon understand that all they are are entertainers nothing more nothing less and will go back to the only thing they do well.

rjn5656 08-27-2020 06:44 AM

I've been a big sports fan but I'm thinking about following my favorite teams this year.

First of all, I don't follow basketball but what they're doing makes a bit of sense.

Baseball is having a major problem with games not being played because of the virus. The season is meaningless. I'm not happy about my team supporting BLM.

I'm not happy about the NFL intending to play the Black National Anthem before their games. To me that's a very divisive move when we should be trying to unite our country. They also have many key players that are "opting out" for this season again making the games meaningless. Whoever wins the Super Bowl, if there is one, should an asterisk in the record book. I've watched every game that my team has played over the past twenty or so years, except when I lived out of the country. I'm seriously considering not watching this year.

I don't watch a lot of hockey except when my team is in the playoffs. But even that is ruined because there has been no season to determine who gets into the playoffs.

I'm glad the PGA Tour is back to playing. Not having fans takes a bit away, but all of the great players are still playing and there hasn't been much mention of the protests etc. They have had people during the breaks giving their "30 seconds" worth. Of course they all have the same message.

What's a shame is that the team sports are turning a lot of people away but supporting all of this division and protesting. I got a lot of enjoyment following my teams and I'm going to miss that. But the combination of the whining athletes and the problems caused by the virus have made me rethink the whole thing.

billethkid 08-27-2020 08:11 AM

Let's all hope and pray some special interest group does not attack golf being seen as some form of "privilege".

skip0358 08-27-2020 08:40 AM

As far as I'm concerned they could ALL stop playing tomorrow. Yes I would feel bad for the support forces bars, vendors etc. but as for the players their choice. No loss in my book!

tophcfa 08-27-2020 08:47 AM

Long live golf and hockey.

Dana1963 08-27-2020 09:41 AM

Who in their right mind would pay to see a golf tournament when it’s on TV?

davem4616 08-27-2020 09:43 AM

actually all that is going on in pro sports has 'freed me' from my compulsive behavior of never wanting to miss an NFL game that the team I follow was in

so, no more having to watch Monday, Thursday and Sunday night games....last year I asleep in the chair for most of the 4th quarter anyway....oh btw, for anyone that doesn't stay up late...they don't run a 'test pattern' after midnight anymore

I thought the same thing until I went to the final day of the 1999 Ryder Cup at The Country Club in Brookline and watched first hand the greatest final day comeback in history. It was the most electrifying sporting event I ever had the pleasure of witnessing and would not have been the same watching it on TV.

Sports being cancelled because of Covid ‘freed me’ from the same compulsive sports watching.

manaboutown 08-27-2020 09:58 AM

I enjoy watching tennis.

Arlington123 08-27-2020 04:37 PM

I’m done. Stand for the flag and our anthem then just maybe I’ll watch again.

Mleeja 08-27-2020 05:33 PM

I have not been a fan of the NBA since the days of Magic Johnson, Larry Bird or Michael Jordan. The players today just do not make we want to get interested in the game. I am a Cubs fan, but not a baseball fan. I cannot name one player that plays for Toronto, Baltimore, or even Tampa. Don’t care. Same for the NFL, I follow the Colts but do not care about the rest. Have not missed sports all that much. The WNBA? Are they still playing?

tophcfa 08-27-2020 06:04 PM

Looks like hockey has joined the boycott. That leaves golf as the remaining sport worth watching, of course along with womens beach volleyball.

Stu from NYC 08-27-2020 06:07 PM

Hoping that lack of funding for players salaries make them realize they are performers and people are not really interested in their point of view.

Number 10 GI 08-27-2020 07:31 PM

I quit watching sports long ago. Too many thugs in their ranks that the owners and the NFL, NBA, etc. weren't willing to kick out of the profession. Great role model for the young sports fans, NOT! Don't lay out the "it's not all of them" because the good ones didn't ostracize the bad ones or demand the owners get rid of them. You are known by who you associate with.

valuemkt 08-27-2020 07:56 PM

Roger Goodell killed the couch potato sport I loved best. First the knee, then sucking up to Colin and apologizing was it .. I feel sorry for the hard working college kids probably missed their gravy train. On top of that, the BIG 10 isnt even playing on Saturdays this year .. Well, at least i wont be throwing Nerf bricks at the TV any more ..

I watch golf, no politics, no blm, no bull, I watch the news for politics and that is getting led . Who cares what gang bangers this. Don’t want to get shot, obey the police, plane and simple.

Graspher 08-27-2020 09:58 PM

I’m done with all pro sports...period.

diamond2005 08-28-2020 05:04 AM

Obviously, you did not see Cameron Champ on the PGA Tour yesterday with, one white golf shoe, and one black shoe with BLM written on them.

They should be dead. Millions of people have lost their jobs. And these idiots get paid millions to play sports! Seriously!! Look what the nurses and doctors and now our police officers do. They all put their lives on the line and get paid squat! That is ridiculous! Priorities in this country suck more and more everyday. That is why we are where we are. And then these “athletes “ are kneeling to the flag and people still want to support that! Everyone has “survived” not watching sports, think people can survive longer.

Bill1701 08-28-2020 07:01 AM

TV NBA ratings are way down this year. Some of it has to do with the daytime games, but even the prime time ones have less than 4 million viewers. Many people just don't care anymore. The same is true for baseball. It will be interesting to see what happens when college and pro football start up.

bioman419 08-28-2020 07:03 AM

Through With Sports !!!!!

These "Big Shot" multi-millionaires think they can do as they want without fear of being fired and accept the fines levied. If I protested Viet Nam, Attica or Kent University during my working days and didn't show up for work, I would have been fired.

In July there were Three White females and four White males killed by black males and you didn't read about or see about about these tragedies in the so-called National News. NO-ONE took a knee for these souls or burned down their neighborhoods in protest.

Well my Friends, if you see a golf cart around The Villages with signs on a cart with these names, it's me

Through with sports!

tjboxer79 08-28-2020 07:04 AM

There is more to life than you watching sports.

tjboxer79 08-28-2020 07:06 AM

Try surviving seven bullets in your back.

Green-Eyed Lady 08-28-2020 07:15 AM

We have not supported the NFL for a few years...College sports are more interesting and exciting to enjoy due to less "hotdogs" on the field. Now college sports are on hold due to COVID19 fears.:ohdear:
We do enjoy the comeback of televised golf tournaments each weekend.
No longer supporting MLB or NBA...The Kapernick influence killed it for us!

au contraire, mon cher,,, no has posted players, etc, cannot protest &, as employees who belong to a labor union, they're well within their right to protest,,, no responder has mentioned race as a basis for ignoring these carjackers in shorts' future performances. responders who base arguments on race exhibit personal racism or perhaps self-imposed guilt but maybe that's just me

...in keeping with their "Cancel Culture" - I would suggest that ANY Pro Sports that honors postponement / cancellation / protesting of their games.... BE CANCELLED OUT. period. I would not even click on a channel that is showing these sports - thus inhancing the number of viewers supporting the advertisers and the mega $$$$$ these leagues receive in order to pay these primidonas their millions++++$$$$$$.

They suspended NHL hockey playoffs until Saturday bc of this BLM 👎🏻 so hockey was also affected.

LG999 08-28-2020 07:42 AM
