Is this legit??

Is this legitimate? Wanted photo of insurance card and SS #.
This site says it's a private worldwide health provider. I would never give out the information they are requesting, ss number, full name, birthdate, medicare number, etc. Opens yourself up to fraud.
The Villages News should have checked before posting. The US govt does not require any of this info for a vaccine. Beware. |
is this legit

I would not trust it.

I thought the timing was odd. Didn’t expect to be registering at 9:00 on a Sunday night. I stopped reading as soon as I saw they wanted SSN and insurance info. I’ve had enough phishing emails for the red flags to fly over this one.
There was an article about this on the front page of The Villages Daily Sun this past Saturday. Large scale vaccine distribution run by Global Medical Response. This was an announcement by the State of Florida Department of Health.
Unless I saw the article myself, I still wouldn't trust it. I tried searching the online version of the Daily Sun but could find no information about this.
I tried searching the Sumter County and Florida State Dept of Health but could find no information about this. The link does not go to the Access2Care site - I have tested that. The site the link goes to has the Access2Care and Global Medical Response logos but oddly, you can't click the logos to get to the official sites. The only two links you can click on the saferestart.net page are the ones that ask for more information. Saferestart seems to be about medical assessments and monitoring for returning to work and not about scheduling vaccinations. As others have pointed out, that level of personal info should not be necessary to register for a vaccination. And all of this might just be wrong and the site really is legitimate but I would not provide my information until I personally saw a notification from an official Govt source about this site. |

By law, s.s. numbers or are t legally required by anyone .
call the Daily Sun and ask
The only information required for covid vaccine when I received it was Medicare number.
The Fruitland Park police and the Sumter County sheriff's office were both called last evening and they said it was a scam. The fact that the Sumter County health dept provided no info on this site is odd in itself.
Daily Sun article
The website is listed on front page of Daily Sun paper this morning.
I registered on this site and I wasn’t asked for either
I did provide the information last evening (reluctantly). This morning I had an e mail to sign up for a specific time. I scheduled tomorrow, 1/12/21. I received another e mail confirming my appointment with instructions to print the confirmation containing a bar code. If this is a scam it is very sophisticated since they had all my information last night. There is no need for two follow up e mails. We will see.
Where are the appointments?
I didn't see it BUT what I have seen is that there is and will be a lot of scams going on re: this vaxx. I also read that just because you see it publicized doesn't mean it's legit neither. Always, always, always question things especially "IF" they want your personal information.
First it’s a scam. Then maybe not. Now I hear it’s okay. There must be a better way...
Here is the privacy statement from the company running this effort.
You are rightfully concerned with providing the info, as was I. The company is legit. The process is suspect. Here is more information about their concerns for privacy: Privacy Policy | Access2Care |

Being skeptical is good. Scams can be pretty sophisticated, so why not be careful? The “I got mine and you didn’t” is okay when you are 5 years old. Sad to see in an adult.
Hubby also have an appointment for tomorrow morning and for 3 weeks from now for the 2nd dose. Lost some sleep last night thinking maybe it was a scam. Makes me feel better that it was printed in today's paper. And very glad hubby can get his shot.

Todays paper free covid vaccine??
Todays paper Daily Sun has article for sign up for free vaccine front page. When you log in it asks for social security number and insurance info??? Says free so why is that info being requested?? Looks like insurance co would be billed - we backed out of site.

You do need a valid ID such as a driver's license. |
On Facebook, Sumter Commissioner Oren Miller said that Sumter County had partnered with GMR for vaccinations and that they were confident they would get 4,000 doses.
Seems to be legit, but I'm not giving them the info they are requesting. I'll wait until CVS, Walgreens and Publix's start giving vaccinations. Just stay safe and keep wearing your mask.... |
Next to walmart on 466. Woodbridge.
Every physician's or other medical office I have ever used does ask for SS# and your insurance info. It may not be a hoax. Look into other info about the SafeRestart company and the source of the Daily News for sending the notification.
Scam. Don't ever give out your SS# to anyone online or over the phone.
Don't ever give out your SS# to anyone online or over the phone.
Definitely something odd going on.
- Some in here have said the site asks for a photo of insurance card, others report no information required - Google shows it was on the DailySun facebook page but it isn't there now - Some comments in one of the DailySun facebook posts refer to a notice being on the facebook page but again, it is no longer there - Still nothing about it on the Sumter County Dept of Health page If this is legitimate it is a **** poor way to roll it out. |
Good for you, there is no reason at all for SS# and I even find the insurance info request questionable.
And your social security number. Looks like a scam.

More information
Folks,
I am in no way stating the site is either legitimate or not, but thought I would post this information for folks who may have used the sumterfl.safestart.net site and are now worried about a scam. The information I found seems to corroborate the person who stated SafeStart.net is related to GMR (Global Medical Response), the folks who own AMR ambulances. I do have over thirty years of IT experience, for what that is worth. I first checked it with databases of known scams and suspicious sites. The site did not appear on any of those. I then went to the site and chose Step 1 - I need to register for a covid vaccine. The site then took me to a page to authenticate, with the options being text, email, or call. I chose email as that would provide me with more info based on where the email came from. The email did, in fact, come from GMR.net, which leads me to believe the site is legitimate. Again, I am in no way stating this site is legitimate, or not, I am simply stating to those who did sign up for vaccines via this site that you probably have nothing to worry about. Regards, Joe |
Here is the Oren Miller - Sumter County Commissioner District 5 facebook page where the link is posted and some additional discussion
