Gabby Petito Case

Gabby Petito is all over the news because she is missing and her fiance refuses to say anything about where she may be. Obviously, if he committed a crime, the fiance has the legal right to not reveal anything that would result in his arrest and prosecution. He is following his lawyer's advice. The media and others are putting immense pressure on the fiance with unrelenting coverage of him. I suspect that he cannot even safely leave his house. I'm conflicted about this. If he is just exercising his legal rights, does the media have the right to effectively ruin his life? Should the law be changed? What do you think?

It is a good thing I do not hold a position of authority, because I think he hurt her or killed her.

They have also looked into a newly wed couple who were gay who were killed at the same time. I don't remember clearly the connection, but I think I read that someone saw them arguing near where those bodies were discovered.

I really try not to do that...type things I am not sure of, but it stuck in my mind as that.

I think I also remember he was home a week without reporting her missing. I am really believing he harmed her. I wish I knew what his mindset is on homosexuality....or hers.

I have a lot of time right now to read stuff like this. I am waiting to return full blast to groups until this wave of Covid calms down. I know of a total of eight people, all Villagers who have had the break through sickness and some were REALLY sick with it.

manaboutown 09-17-2021 01:28 PM

IMHO his actions are shameful and indicative he has something to hide.

MrFlorida 09-17-2021 01:33 PM

Hopefully they are not doing this for free publicity for their blog.... I can't imagine he would do that to his fiancée

Toymeister 09-17-2021 02:54 PM

It does not hurt that the victim is young, female and attractive.

If it was a bald overweight male, the type who drives a golf car with knee hanging out, there would be zero coverage.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not laughing at the situation about the missing woman but what you said is funny.

No milk cartons for me. :(

I think the problem here is this young woman was in a bad relationship and tried to fix it by going on this journey with that guy. She probably needed friends telling her to dump that dude.

The police are actively investigating and the fiance is a 'person of interest.' Getting a lawyer makes him more interesting almost a suspect. Time will tell.

Bad feeling that she walked away and he could not find her...so he just left her roaming....went home and now has been gone since last Tues.

Just responding to your last paragraph. Sorry to hear of your friends getting sick. I’m just wondering, were they vaccinated? Thanks

the media has the right to say, do and ruin anyones life as they please. they have the right to report fake news and lies about anyone they choose without penalty.

mike234 09-18-2021 06:06 AM

if it was a black person missing, they would be lucky to get a digital notice over a highway....

bowlingal 09-18-2021 06:11 AM

He is also missing now

I am happy to see that this non-story is not getting much traction in serious media (NYT, WaPo). It might be there somewhere, but not splashed across the front pages.

sdm1222 09-18-2021 06:32 AM

Now the Fiance, (suspect), Brian Laundrie's family have reported him missing since Tuesday.

Don't understand why this has to be made a racial issue...

Given the mess that our country is in, if you have any interest in this case whatsoever you need to rearrange your life priotities.

MLuft 09-18-2021 06:43 AM

Read the book A Rip in Heaven and u may better understand why this man is not speaking and has a lawyer. I guided my children in this direction after reading.

From my arm chair, the analysis is simple. His legal rights do not supersede her rights to life. Only a person responsible for her disappearance or death would act as he is doing. My simple conclusion is that he killed her. His actions speak louder that his words (which happen to be none).

Yeah, I don't see this ending well. He either killed her or injured her and left her in the wilderness.

I agree. The media has too much power and almost no accountability. I think they have the right to report that the fiance is not talking, but they shouldn't have the right to report it non-stop, hour after hour, and in a such way that it ruins his life.

Billy1 09-18-2021 07:10 AM

Don't go on a cruise with an angry spouse, either.

GypsyRN 09-18-2021 07:13 AM

Oh, please!!! Glad you're NOT in a position of authority too!! Without the mere "scantest" of facts, there are those who seem to lean towards convicting the fiance' without so much of an investigation!! He doesn't "have" to talk to ANYONE at any time!

I've always felt that if I was ever so unfortunate to be tried for "ANYTHING", I'd much prefer to have my fate decided by a judge, than a jury composed of jurors whose mindset leans towards that paralleling yours!! Geez!!

Maybe. But, "You have the right to remain silent" has been the law since 1966. Apparently, he could be given immunity and be required to talk or be prosecuted.

He went “missing” Friday. Hmmmm…..

Trot out the race card where race has NOTHING to do with the story. Welcome to my block list.

Its more than obvious shes dead and he killed her. Common sense. Its his girlfriend. If he had nothing to do with her disappearance then why hire a lawyer and refuse to speak to police. Yes, he has the right NOT to speak but if innocent…..why not talk??

According to the report I read (BBC) "My client has gone into hiding, Gabby is the missing person."
That was his lawyers quote.
Evidently crowds had gathered outside his house, chanting "Where is Gabby?"

He has an obligation as a human being to tell her family where she is. If it was your daughter I’m thinking you’d have no issue with the media “ruining” his life?

I have a bad feeling that he may have killed her and has left her somewhere that she’ll never be found. If he doesn’t talk and her body isn’t found he’s hoping he can get past all of this and never be charged.

As of yesterday, he now is missing also. So what does that tell you?

A few points most have missed. She was struggling with creating a YouTube blog about their travels. She also was the aggressor in the cops body cam video.
We may soon learn this is a stunt to gain views to their YouTube channel.
