These counties are not all Village properties.

I spent the whole day in the Villages hospital ER this week and only one person with Covid was there all day. They have a separate area for Covid patients in the ER waiting room. Just saying that there are times when I believe that the covid scare is greatly exaggerated.

Shameful scare mongering by the media and sheep people easily corralled. Based on the aforementioned number 5% were hospitalized (no mention how long) and .002% death rate. Meaning you have 99.98% chance not to die! This is how media should report COVID, not just a grand total total cases with no qualifications is shameful.

People should educate themselves and stop listening to this media ratings whoring hysteria.

If the media and CDC reported true useful facts, there would not be a terrified country. Why would they want that?

In Marion County, there have been 3,127 new cases. 178 of those cases were admitted to the hospital, and less than ten resulted in death.

In Sumter County, there have been 823 new cases. 50 of those cases were admitted to the hospital, and no deaths were reported."


Note that the majority of cases and hospitalizations and all of the deaths were in Lake and Marion Counties, of which The Villages compromises an insignificant number of the population. That brings us to 823 "cases" in Sumter County---a case being a positive test without regard to whether or not the person is sick. And then to 50 admitted to a hospital---whether because of or incidental to COVID. No need to hide under your bed yet, and another example of media hysteria.

Really, those 800k people who have died from covid should stop scaring the rest of us! And the CDC should stop trying to help the helpless and braindead with facts & data!! whores

How is it media hysteria when they post the facts & data?? It’s only hysteria when people decide what they want to do with the data. Don’t blame the messenger!!

75% of the dead had 4 or more comorbidities. If you have hypertension, diabetes, CHF and are lugging around 40% extra body mass in fat, you're pretty likely to "catch" cardiac arrest to begin with. If you don't fit into that category, then yeah, they shouldn't be scaring you at all.

Which are different every day depending on who is presenting.
Which are flip flopped every day depending on who is presenting.
Which have no base line for legitimate comparison.

The experts think almost everyone in the USA will contact Covid sometime in the next year or two. Your chances of severe illness or death are very low if you are vaccinated.

Using the numbers in that paper the death rate was something less than 0.25% meaning you have something more than 99.75% chance not to die. BUT, that is a misuse of those numbers.

How many paragraphs should have been spent explaining that new cases *might* have gone into the hospital last week (more likely this week) but any deaths won't come for another couple of weeks? The fewer than 20 deaths weren't from the 8,057 new cases last week, those deaths were from the cases two or three weeks ago.

When the media tries to explain the data they are called fear mongering and ratings whoring. When they don't try to explain it not only are they still criticized plus people tend to misunderstand and misuse the data.

Still, these numbers appear to be relatively low and hopefully they will stay that way.

Maybe I'm bit off base, but since when is simply stating the data without much comment scare mongering and shameful? I don't understand your comments.

I didn’t know hospitals starting reporting and giving out personal medical information on other patients. Did they tell everybody in the ER about your condition ? I thought Hippa was still a law .

Was Fauci correct when he said each positive test counts as a case? So if one person tests positive 10 time in 10 days that counts as 10 cases.........Each positive test = 1 case.....................wrong way to track....no wonder the data from the beginning up until now is garbage.

Seriously, people still care about this thing? Mask up get sick, social distance get sick, mask up and social distance and still get sick. Shoot a social experiment in your arm on top of all or part of the previous and still get sick.
No one knows where this thing will be in 2 days much less 2 months or 2 years.

never get tested . Officials report the numbers are in reality double.

We all share a social compact to care about our fellow human beings. We can either listen to the doctors and epidemiologists using science as their touchstone...or we can listen to the "experts" on TOTV who use....ummmm...their own twisted logic.

I think we can all agree that if one wished to play in traffic on I-4 during rush hour, it is your right to do so. But, does one have a right for those wishing to play on I-4 to drag others onto I-4? I think most of us would say, that is not your right to do so. So, if you are unvaccinated or unmasked, it is your right. But, you have no right to go about and infect others just like you have no right to pull others onto I-4 to play if that is what you want to do.

I think the President of France had it right. It is time to emmerder those who are unvaccinated or unmasked. That verb means to immerse in excrement.

It is time that the unvaccinated and unmasked stay home.

They made their choice. Now, be subject to the consequences.On the other hand, those who abide by the social compact to care for their fellow human beings by masking up and getting vaccinated should be allowed to play as much as they want.

This is a public health issue and those who want to belittle the numbers of Covid deaths or hospitalizations or illnesses need to be emmerder.

You know, I am sure, that hospitalization lags case increases by several weeks and deaths lag behind hospitalizations by several weeks. Also, there are long term effects even if you were to recover. The article does not mention how many of the hospitalized were unvaccinated, but that would be a useful fact to have. This is not fear mongering , it is a reporting of facts so that we may be well informed and therefore make informed, intelligent decisions.

This latest variant is our ticket out of this...as long as they don't try another booster aimed at it...that will kill off any remaining chance of herd immunity...The reason for all the media hype on this right at this moment is the EUA is up Jan. 15....which means no more emergency use...bring on the lawyers...time to file your claims against the vaccine makers.

It's media hysteria for several reasons, but the biggest is that they posted high numbers in Lake and Marion Counties as if that reflected the population of The Villages, which it does not. A media out could go as far as posting nothing but facts (like that would ever happen), but by choosing which facts they put out there they induce bias.

Some truth in that post, but in no way can anyone equate vaccination with "masking up"

Opinions are opinions, but facts are facts and over 800,000 US citizens have died from CV. And I know that some anti-vaxxers say that ONE motorcycle person died and was listed as a CV death. My opinion IS that it is like an urban legend. Because MANY expert Doctors state that CV deaths are UNDER-reported. Some die at home and are listed as "natural" causes. And there are probably other reasons for under-reporting. Early in the CV pandemic, a Florida administrator quit her job in protest of Florida's UNDER-reporting of all CV stats. That made all the news. It can likely be Googled.....if forgotten.

They have no idea how many died from Covid symptoms...never will the data is corrupt.

How many die from the flu each year...zero.....they all die from the symptoms and not the virus.

Most of our knowledge is built on probabilities, and relativities. There are very few absolutes. Think quantum theory. Without these estimates we would still be in the dark ages.

propaganda that gets MAGNIFIED and distributed by faux news sources and even darker misinformation channels. Does anyone REALLY believe that the incredible polarization in US society merely just HAPPENED over the recent span of say the last 6 years? NO! Russia tried the same thing in Germany and France with only limited success. They have tried it in The Ukraine for years and are now sinking their Russian Bear teeth into that country. And they are nipping at the heals of (the at least) 50% of US citizens. I don't know how to express it any clearer. The US Democracy has been Severely wounded. And those that knock the US LEGITiMATE news media are pouring SALT into those wounds. Be afraid, be VERY afraid!
