Colder Than Average

The Farmer's Almanac is forecasting a colder and snowier winter than average for the 23/24 winter season. This is no surprise as we are in a 9-year cooling trend, which is within a 6,000 year Milankovitch cooling trend, which is within our current 2.5 million year old Pleistocene Ice Age. The Pleistocene Ice Age is the subject of a talk on Sep 29 at 4 PM at Colony Cottage - for the Philosophy Club. Dress warm.

Well, that surely puts The Global Warming issue to bed. No longer need to feed your cow "Beano" extra strength.

Case Closed! That's That!

There is reportedly a 90% chance of an El Nino cycle forming in the coming weeks, which would for the next 9-12 months make it cooler than normal in most of the South (and wetter), but also warmer in the North and drier.

I guess we'll see If the Almanac was right, or scientists this year. I've found in many years past, they usually followed a similar prediction.

Oh, you mean Climate Change. Yeah, I don’t see the connection.

Stu from NYC 09-27-2023 06:48 AM

Time will tell

Keefelane66 09-27-2023 07:10 AM

After this summer I hope it does get cooler. But what’s one year in a 2.5 million year old Pleistocene Ice Age.

Squirrels are very busy gathering food to store. Going to be a cold winter.

MrFlorida 09-28-2023 09:18 AM

If they can't predict today's weather, how can they predict weather a year in advance ?

I've been wondering where you've been hiding.

Nice to see your source of science is the...... farmers almanac?!?!?!? FYI the same publication predictes the summer of 2024 is going to be record hot! I can't wait for you to explain your way out of that one.:icon_bored:

Yep, case closed, in the 1960's global cooling was the big scare, they were afraid the ice cap was growing so large it would tip the earth 🌎 off it's axis.

Take that Farmer's Almanac into your bathroom and start tearing out the pages because so far this year (worldwide) it has been the HOTTEST on record. And scientists are saying that it will get hotter each year for at least the next 8 years. The only way to stop that is for more people in the US and the world to buy more Electric cars. Europe and even China are doing their part by buying more E-vehicles. And before anyone says otherwise, science is building better batteries and countries are building more charging centers as we speak / write!

On the squirrelly side of the argument.

Escape Artist 09-28-2023 10:48 AM

Yeah, they predicted a warmer than usual summer for the northeast this summer and that wasn’t the case at all. Also predicted a cooler summer for California and the southwest and the opposite happened.

And, there are a lot of acorns this year, up north, if that has anything to do with it.

Not only does official government satellite data indicate we are in a 9-year cooling trend, but it also shows, that over the past 30 years, global warming is slowing down -- exactly the opposite of what alarmists claim. Listen to the data -- it's talking to you.

I try not to worry about things I can do nothing about. I do find it interesting that global warming has been spun with words to climate change. As climate has always changed even before the first humans this madness, this panic has insulated itself from obsolescence.

With rising oil and gas prices, a colder winter will cause the boycott of Russian oil to morph into an oil and gas black market. Fortunately I took my snow shovel with me to the villages. It is great as a dust pan.

There are many other alternatives. Plant trees instead of houses. Population control? The population of the US has doubled since 1950 180 million now 350 million and other countries are even worse.

It is of course true both electric motors and batteries have gotten better. I have or had a book published about 1910, of course it had graphs etc. The book said that if we don't switch to electric trucks New York city horse manure would be up to your waist. Yes, there were electric cars and trucks in 1910. Aside, gasoline engines have also gotten far better. Diesels. Used to be diesel was the same price as regular gasoline. You get like 20-30% more miles per gallon over gasoline.

The Almanac has repeatedly shown to be more accurate than the millions of dollars world governments pour into the UN's IPCC ... https://wattsupwiththat.com/2021/10/...nal-forecasts/ The main difference is -- when running a business for profit - you need to be somewhat accurate.

Getting warmer more slowly is still getting warmer. Pushing false data analysis in one case makes me nervous about trusting this case, but if it actually has slowed then MAYBE credit should be given to those pushing for the changes to fight warming.

The data is talking but some seem to have problems with comprehension

You may not be able to comprehend -- but others can easily see that the last 30 years of satellite temperature data show warming is slowing down, while the last 9 years show a cooling trend. The amazing thing is that the media refuses to acknowledge either, because they don't fit the climate alarmism narratives. Regarding giving credit to fighting global warming -- looks like more CO2 is doing a great job. It has even been decreasing severe weather events for over 30 years. I love CO2 and you should too.

The media doesn’t acknowledge either because at least one claim is demonstrably false and has been debunked numerous times - I’m not going to waste space here doing it again.

GoRedSox! 09-28-2023 01:13 PM

The media may not be reporting it because other reputable organizations like NASA say that Summer 2023 was the hottest on record since records began in 1880. August was 2.2 degrees above average. The World Meteorological Organization also says Summer 2023 was the hottest on record.

I get that in today's polarized world, not everyone trusts NASA. Some conspiracy theorists say the moon landings were faked. There are virtually no set of facts which are universally accepted. In some circles, folks believe that COVID is a hoax and Pro Wrestling is real.

This difference here is ... you bring narratives and I bring data. The "data" shows that the last 30 years shows global warming is slowing -- and the "data" shows the last 9 years has a slight cooling trend -- and it's all government data. If you don't like the data -- change it to fit your alternate reality.

The data DOES NOT SHOW THAT! The problem is some don’t know how to analyze the data and I am tired of explaining that to you over and over again.

So 37 years ago as the study of climate change was just getting started a prediction was made that did not come true? Imagine that!

But sure, between that and your focus on statements from Al Gore I can see where he confusion comes from.
