TV, Internet, and Phone service.
Closing today. :coolsmiley:I would like to ask for some input regarding the TV, Internet, and Phone service in TV. We will be snowbirds and would like to be able to shut down the services when we leave. I have been looking and have talked with some friends that are snowbirds in TV. I would like some more input.:undecided:
Thanks Ed |
Congrats of closing in TV!
I bought back in March and I went with Embarq for the triple play. I am not sure that will work for you as I did not ask about the putting it on vacation when you are not in TV. One thing for sure, Comcast is expensive and they are the cable co. I had them here at home in Atlanta and after 4 years I fired them. Now I have the Dish here and in TV. I love it. Again, congrats on your closing. We are in The Village of Summerhill.:beer3:

The Embarq tripple play is probably the cheapest option. Personally I have their phone service and hi-speed internet. No Problems
I just prefer DirecTV for the sports options. |

Do you get TV channels with Direct or Dish? |
What does the embarq triple play cost per month?..............GN

we are snowbirds and we simply use our cell phones and have no land line phone service at our place in TV and have done fine. I had an emergency need to call 911 and used a cell phone and it worked fine, very quick connection. Obviously, internet and TV service (cable or dish) are necessities but not a phone line. Think about it before you add that cost, especially if you are a snowbird.

The Villages stations DO NOT come with any satelite service.

TV, Internet, and Phone
I just finished talking to Embarq.
Triple play is $140.00 per month with no activation fee. Unlimited long distance 3.0 mpb internet 200 channel Dish network. Or Triple play $129.00 with 100 channels and $99 activation fee. Vacation off cost is $8.50 per month for phone and $5.00 per month for Dish. You are charged $9.95 to start back up when you return. Also if you're a frog you can get 24 month package and get $25 off for six months. She didn't recomend that opition for snowbirds. Ed |
Bogie shooter: no problem, I have no friends:beer3:
Really, I not had any problems with folks (either friends, family or business callers) not calling us because of long distance costs. I think that most have cell phones or other lines with either full long distance service included in the price or with unlimited minutes. Long distance charges for telephone services are almost a thing of the past with most plans. Good point. |
Thanks Wizard for doing all the calling. Good info.
In Hemmingway, they don't allow "doo-dads' (sorry, can't think of another word) in the yard. Do dish satellites count? |

We have a Vonage phone and we take the modem back and forth. We have two virtual numbers, and it is never long distance for anyone to call us. And we have unlimited long distance no matter where we are living. |
Saw an ad for AT&T U-Verse last week and inquired about service. Guess it is a fiber optic offering similar to Verizon's FIOS. The rates for bundled packages looked pretty good from both companies compared to what we are paying EMBARQ for local service , AT&T for Long Distance and Comcast for Hi Def TV and High Speed Internet. Unfortunately these packages are not available in TV because of the monopoly franchises given to EMBARQ and Comcast. Too bad.
I think we would all benefit if EMBARQ and Comcast had some competition. |

Satellite dishes are allowed. Just put it someplace where it's not too obvious. Mine is mounted on the side of my house behind the A/C unit very low to the ground. Due to the southern location, and the location of the satellites, you point fairly high. So it can be between 2 houses down low and "see" the satellite. |
Land line only costs $30/month as part of Comcast triple play, we like it to use for the 1 800 numbers we call that invariably put you on hold several times so we don't burn cell minutes with them.....GN
