Can anyone recommend a way to get out of a Marriott timeshare?

The organization from your link says this about the timeshare exit companies:

"The catch is that every one of these companies expects you to pay a staggeringly high upfront fee for their "services"."

But, every TV and radio commercial I have heard for these companies says that, if they don't get rid of your timeshare, "you will pay nothing".

So, who is lying???

The first step would be to offer to give it back to Marriott. The next step would be to contact or advertise the timeshare to other people who already own a Marriott timeshare. They would be more likely to buy or accept your timeshare. Another option is to ask a charity to sell it for you and allow them to keep the proceeds. Some people may be willing to buy a timeshare from a charity that they already donate to. Good luck.

Sell it on ebay. Some sell for as little as 1.00.

You’ll have to give it away to someone - someone will take it.

I could be wrong, but, as I understand it, even if you give it away, you still need Marriott's approval to accept the new owner and to eliminate the current owner's legal responsibility to pay for the annual maintenance costs. Otherwise, you could just give it to a person who is bankrupt.

That depends on the yearly "fee".

I a lot of cases, you'll have to pay someone to get them to take your Time Share.

If there is money in your estate, your estate can be required to pay any money that was owed to the timeshare company before you died. But, if you leave the timeshare to a beneficiary, the beneficiary can refuse to accept it, and they cannot be required make any future payments. No one can be forced to accept an inheritance.

We sold ours back to Marriott- of course they only gave us half the purchase price.
But we were happy it was over..

Nothing is free
 

Many of the free services are not free. I haven’t found one that was. Some of their versions are free or that they will swap you into another timeshare that’s getting rid of. Yours is free. However, you’ve taken on additional debt. I definitely would look at TUG. Typically the hotel related timeshares hold their value better than any of the others.You will find out there.

If it’s paid off, give it back via their deed-back process. You will get no $$$ and MUST be current on fees. NO good way.
