Progress Energy re-opens golf cart access to Wal-Mart

While returning from a doctor’s appointment on the short dirt path that runs between Aldi’s and Wal-Mart (on 441) I encountered workmen from Progress Energy putting up a barrior fence to block golf carts. The path is on Progress property and they said the directive came from higher ups.

This affects Stonecrest residents too, but we can add an automatic gate elsewhere that gets us into the parking lots on the other side of Aldi’s if we get permission like we did from Wal-Mart.

Update: The path has been re-opened

Help us here Ed. Is Progress Energy owned by the Morses? What residents in what areas does this affect. Effect? Afflict? Bother? Inhibit?

That would be a big stretch.............
Duke Energy and Progress Energy have merged to create the new Duke Energy, the nation’s largest utility. Our combined assets and expertise will help us achieve more efficiency to deliver affordable, reliable and clean energy to approximately 7 million customers, both today and in the future.

Anybody who has been trespassing on private property will be impacted.

Oh. I was gonna stand up for those Morses again.

Whew.

Gracie, Marion County Property Appraiser lists Florida Power Corporation as the land owner.

It will prevent mostly TV residents in the historical section from accessing Wal-Mart by golf cart. Stonecrest residents will not have golf cart access to Aldi’s, Lowes, medical facilities, and The Villages until we install our own gate between our property and one of the numerous parking areas behind Aldi’s.

It was never clear to me whether it was power company Wal-Mart property as the path was outside of the fence that the power company placed around the power equipment. Looks like we know now.

I'm lost again, I always thought Stonecrest was behind the other Walmart.

Patty, EdVinMass is talking about the Wal Mart on 441, not the one on 466. Stonecrest is behind the one on 441.

Bill :)

I'm on the fence

Whether or not to get a steet legal.
Restrictions of this kind can make a difference in my decision.
I'm assuming I might need to go north for awhile as stores will take awhile to be built where our house is located (south of 466A).

FYI, at this point we'll probably have a cart for me and a car for my wife.

Any thoughts?

For the life of me I cannot understand this area's love affair with golf carts. I have a truck, it works really well, it's comfortable and most of all it's AIR CONDITIONED. My wife has a car, it works really well, it's comfortable and most of all it's AIR CONDITIONED. If I wind up living here 50 years (which is highly unlikely) I will never understand why you would want a golf cart for anything but a golf course. But hey..that's just me.

If you don't understand, then none of the almost 100,000 people here can help you understand.

I'm with you on this one ...............

Nor do I expect them to. It's just NOT me. It will never make any sense to me.

Almost 100,000 people who dreamed of a battery operated miniature car when they were pre teens, but whose parents wouldn't buy them one. :gc:

mack184 my thoughts precisely. The only use for my golf cart is golf. However you have some folks who want The Village Lifestyle without paying the premium villagers paid. Its like not joining a country club but attending all the sport and sopcial events. wonder exactly how many non villager golf carts are clogging our cartpaths?

It's a lot easier and faster "zooming" around in a golf cart at 19mph than sitting in a car stuck in traffic. Plus you're not polluting the air, unless you have a gas cart.
