Thank you, Dr. I understand all of that and appreciate your assistance. But, I was wondering where Ed is saying that the powers-that-be would put an access gate since, apparently, the little path between Aldi's and Walmart is now closed.

Stonecrest could put a gate going into Lowes parking lot. That would also give them access to Aldi. I can't see where the Villages could put any kind of gate to get to Wal Mart.

This is a bit scary for me because my wife works at Aldi.

Why is it scary?

We don't drink so that will never be an issue for us.

So, if I understand this correctly, we'll be able to get to Aldi's via golf cart but no further, which means either taking our car or taking our cart to the Wal-Mart on 466. Not as convenient but doable. Personally, as long as I can get to Aldi's, the world is good.

I'm still trying to understand how Stonecrest is going to be able to bypass that little stretch between Aldi's and Wal-Mart and, if they do install a gate somewhere, how hard would it be for TVers to find a way through it.

You may want to look into Florida's open container law. One of our members posted here a while ago saying he got a ticket for having an open container in his golf cart.

I was just thru there at 5:20 PM and the fence blocking access to Walmart etc from the south for TV residents and Aldi's etc from the north for Stonecrest residents has been removed.

The Ho Chi Mihn Trail is open again!

EdVinMass isn't the area that you indicated with a red box where a possible gate could be located also land that is owned by the power company. Could they run a fence all along there to prevent anyone from crossing their power cut?

I do not believe that. Everyone has talked about that poster, but no one knows who he or she is.I know from personal evperience that I have sat in my cart with my wife on many occasions drinking a beer while talking to the police and never never had a problem.Think that rumor was started by a non-drinking poster.

Nope, that highlighted box is Stonecrest POA property. So a remote access gate could be placed there. I have no idea of the legalities or the cost to do it. Also the non golf cart residents of Stonecrest might challenge using our HOA funds for it, but it's an option.

The lower left side of that highlighted rectangle abuts the Aldi's parking lot, the rest abuts the parking for the newly built medical buildings.

What Traffic Jams?

I agree with Mack. Air conditioned SUV is the way to go for me. I have yet to be stuck in any traffic jam. If you call the traffic during the winter season with the snowbirds traffic, then I have to laugh. Rush hour in Washington DC is a "traffic jam". Please! Yes we have a cart but I like getting from point A to B in less time it takes to go by cart. We didn't buy here to run around in a cart. If I golfed yes it would be good. Good for those who do love their carts. Not my bag. I do hope something can be done for those missing out on getting to Walmart on 441by cart.

Number one , if they're closing this path, they could conceivably close the path from the medical complex and Lowes which would mean she'd have to take the car to work.
Secondly, if Aldi ends up losing business from this, they could start laying off some of the their people or cutting hours. My wife has not been there very long.

SE 115 Ave which is in Stonecrest runs behind and very close to Lowes. There are several options for them to put in a path and a gate. The problem for us Villages is that we would have to be given permission to use that gate and drive our golf carts on Stonecrest property.

If I wind up living here 50 years (which is highly unlikely) I will never understand why you would want a golf cart for anything but a golf course. But hey..that's just me.

You'll have one within the year!

I do not know about how Florida applies their DWI laws, but in many states operating ANYTHING with ANY kind of motor requires you to be in compliance with the state's DWI laws. So whether you're operating a Cadillac, motor boat, milk truck, golf cart or a John Deere lawn tractor in a public place, you need to be driving below the legal limit.

One poster mentions that the cops haven't hassled him while sitting in his golf cart drinking a beer while listening to music. That's not really unbelieveable. If the cop's talking to you he's doing his own informal interview with you. You're not slurring, you don't act drunk, and it's not illegal to drink a beer and drive. If he can see you're behaving normally and not likely to cause trouble, why would he give you grief in the first place?

But..if as he's chatting with you you're acting a little "off", or being loud and/or rowdy, don't be quite so sure that you won't get asked to blow up the little balloon. Even if your only mode of transport is an E-Z Go. :o
