How many of you in TV (or not) wake up in the wee hours of the morning and ...

then turn off the brain to go back to sleep?

I don't think it is age related (although in some cases it may be) because I have been doing it for years.....MANY YEARS!

I typically always get a good night's sleep i.e. 6-8 hours....but every once in a while...........wide awake!!! If I can't get back to sleep in 15 minutes or less, I am up for the day.

What tricks do you use to try to get back to sleep?

My DH keeps a CD player and earbud by his side so when he wakes (usually around 3-4) he can play the cd and either listen or be lulled back to sleep. Seems to work for him. After all these years he says that the speaker's voice puts him in a trance and he goes back to sleep! I would be more awake listening I think.

All my life I have always said that sleep was a waste of time. I still do not sleep well and cannot turn off the brain when I do wake up. When I go to bed at night I think oh boy five hours and I can get out of bed! I don't think I will ever change...nor do I want to.

Meditation tapes on my iPad. Sometimes they put me back to sleep, but not always. Sidenote .... It's surprising who you'll find on TOTV at 4 AM!

Same for me. Sleeps a waste of time

Always wake-up once per night for a visit to take care of business and have no trouble falling asleep. I need at least six hours to feel decent for the remainder of the day.

Try to imagine yourself in a peaceful setting, like sitting at the beach with waves overlapping onto the shore. Empty your mind of all other thoughts.

I occasionally wake up in the night, usually in the middle of a strange dream, but I go right back to sleep and, unfortunately, pick up the dream where I left off. My problem, if you want to call it that, is that I wake up around 6 am and cannot stay in bed and go back to sleep even if I have absolutely no reason to get up. Like 2B, I need at least 6-7 hours of sleep to feel good. I have always thought that people who can get by on 4 hours of sleep or so are lucky in that they get a lot more conscious life than most of us, but recent studies have seemed to imply that lack of sleep affects mortality adversely. Besides, I like to sleep!

Then, if we could only have access to the "troll patrol" reports and garden trinket enforcement actions from South of Hy 466, our late night evenings would be complete!:beer3:

I don't even bother. Once my eyes are open, I'm awake and ready to get on with the day!

I'm usually awake around 3:00 a.m. no matter what time I go to bed. I just get up and work on whatever project I have going at the time.

This week is going to be busy. First edits on two books, and six costumes to make for a Christmas parade on the 9th! Something tells me my sleep habits will come in handy over the next week!

I have found if I kick off the covers and get uncomfortably cold for awhile than pull up the covers and it feels so good and calming that I usually go back to sleep.

I go to bed anywhere between 10pm & midnite & I'm usually asleep about 15 seconds after my head hits the pillow. Rarely wake up during the nite, unless a thunderstorm or some other loud noise occurs. Never seem to have a problem going back to sleep. ALWAYS wake up at around 5am, more often than not right on the dot. Not retired yet and still work M-F, but haven't set an alarm for years.

I don't understand how my internal clock works, but it's nice not having to remember to set an alarm.
