2nd place started at -8, 3rd at -7 it was only places 26-30 that gave the leader a 10-shot advantage, he only had a 2-shot lead over #2. It wasn't perfect, but since it is billed as "The SEASON LONG race for the FedEx Cup" why shouldn't the players that outperformed the others have some advantage in the final? Scottie won 4 tournaments including 2 majors. Rory won the Players and The Masters. Under this new system the person who finished in 30th by having a 3rd, a 5th and 2 other top 10 finishes gets to play even up? Fine, but then it's not a "season long" race for the FedEx Cup, at most it's a season long race to the top 30 and a single tournament for the Cup |

The PGA Tour doesn't care about tournament attendance nor even sponsors. Those revenue sources represent less than 25% of PGA Tour Revenue. The only Sponsors they really care about, are sponsors for 2nd Tier events. Without those sponsorships, those events go away. 75% of PGA Tour revenue is derived from TV Rights, Licensing, etc. Rory earned the right to skip the St. Jude. No different than a NFL or MLB team drawing a "bye" or "home field advantage", based on year long performance. Only 1 golfer in the world was offered more to join LIV than Rory, and that was Tiger Woods. Rory passed. He's not in it for the money. He's golf's biggest star and he's earned it with his play.

He was so outspoken against them, I'm guessing LIV didn't want to waste their time |

Just speculation on my part, but I think Rory's outspoken opinion on LIV, was a quid pro quo favor to Monahan.

I was watching the Golf Channel this morning and they were talking about the possibility of the 30th ranked player winning the FedEx Cup and becoming the Tour Champion. In theory, Ricky Fowler or Tom Hoge (currently ranked 49 and 48) could win the Tour Championship if they qualify this weekend. That doesn't make sense.
Right now, Scottie has 5,456 points while Ricky has 1,032 points and Hoge has 1042 points. They agreed that the system is flawed and one of them suggested that at the end of the Tour Championship, the top four players (based on season long points) should play a 36 hole match play (it could also be an 18 hole stroke play) the following day or week to see who wins the FedEx Cup. That way, the winner would be one of the top four players for the entire season - not just someone who gets hot in the last two rounds of the last tournament. |
