A women's major championship at Augusta? Yes, that is what Paula Creamer is calling for.

Based on an interview with the current chairman of Augusta during the recent Masters, this will not happen. He stated that a second tournament, of any type, at Augusta would not take place. His reason was that Augusta is a private membership club and the preparation for, and after, the Masters severely restricts the ability of membership play at a club which has about a 6 month season. Having been a member at a club that had 2 events per year I can understand the concern - and we were able to play 10 months per year. Each event removed 3-4 weeks of membership play.

Makes perfect sense to me. But I am sure we will hear much more about it. Some people just want to make issues out of stuff.

Given the time it took Augusta to come out of the dark ages to even allow women members, I wouldn't hold my breath for a Women's Masters.

I think it is an excellent idea... Maybe it would start to raise the $$$ winnings for the LPGA.

Sounds like a great idea to me however the powers that be at that club are still in the dark ages. It's incredible that in today's world there are still some wives of members there who don't speak up. Well things move slowly in Georgia, after all it took Jimmy Carter 60 years to realize the church he belonged too had a lot of very ancient practices still in use and encouraged today.
I doubt we'll live to see an LPGA event at Augusta. It's a shame. |

Last LPGA event I attended, while Paula was signing visor for my grand-child, I suggested that the next time I would see her would be at Augusta, she liked that idea!....She probably thought this old geezer is delusional.

Perhaps one of their few women members (Condoleeza Rice) could have some s influence in helping the members come out of the dark ages. The past two years they opened the gates for the Drive, chip and putt competition.

liberals...God love em, but comparing what Augusta National does or does not do as a club and then comparing it to 100's of years ago...well it's just simplistic in the extreme...why don't the women who have tons a $$$$ just build their own version of Augusta? Hmmmmmm? |

I don't understand the use of the word "dark ages". Apparently the assumption is that if they don't do something that you want they are in the "dark ages". Hey, it is a private club. They will do what they want to do and it isn't up to us to pass judgement on what (and why) they choose to do with their own club.

Ok new guy in TV, it is not a nice thing to attribute your disagreement with ladies to their hormones making them unreasonable. Lots of very nice ladies here who can think clearly and pass through menopause at the same time.
