This is encouraging for those of us who (occasionally) miss short putts!

According to research by Mark Broadie, a professor at Columbia University who is responsible for the 'strokes gained” concept, on average, PGA TOUR pros make 99% of 2-foot putts, 96% of 3-foot putts, 88% of 4-foot putts and 77% of 5-foot putts.

Yes, but they’re missing those few short putts under tournament conditions on greens that run 13, not a casual round in The Villages where the greens run 8

But they are pros. They practice 8 hours a day and have been doing that for years.

And the greens here are a lot worse than PGA greens. We have weeds, dead spots, etc., and some of them are probably 13 or faster!!

I think I make more putts on faster greens. The ball rolls more true. You just have to adjust for the pace.

I think I make almost as many putts as pros from 2 feet. But my percentage is way lower at 4 or 5 feet. No statistics to back this up, its my subjective feel. Anybody else have a similar impression?

I agree. But I will add that physics tells you that the margin for error for missing a putt when the ball is moving too fast is reduced on a fast green. If you plot the ball speed vs distance travelled, you will see that the distance during which the ball is travelling slow enough to fall into the hole is longer on a fast green. So, as long as you hit the ball hard enough to get to the hole, you will make more putts on a fast green than on a slow green.

OP, quoted statistics from PGA tour. I read in one of the major golf magazines that pro male golfers on an average putt a bit better than pro female golfers. After observing both PGA and LPGA several times, I agree. I have always putted much better on fast greens, thus, have putting issues on our executive courses.

If you played the same courses that these pros play every week, it's very doubtful that you would make the same percentage of 2 footers.

Not an apples to apples comparison. Very different greens under a lot of pressure.

Far too many gimmes inside 3 foot. Putt out and find out your real score per round.
