Takis in Leesburg is okay, they say the gyros is on the spit, but something is still off. Best is the area, which isn't saying much.

I went to the same restaurant (up on 441) once... And once was enough!

The Gyro came with "pre-packaged" meat, every slice was the exact same slice and shape. Certainly not carved from the standard lamb/beef on the vertical rotisserie...

The accompanied "greek salad" also left much to be desired.

Americano's uses the same pre-packaged meat. Disappointing...

I haven't tried that one. Just the one by Spanish Springs...

There are none, unfortunately. We've tried.

We've eaten at Amerikanos many times over the years and have generally enjoyed it. It's not super-duper authentic Greek like you get at the restaurants over in Tarpon Springs, but it's not bad. My go-to dish is your basic Gyro. Maybe my memory is getting faulty but it seems like Amerikanos used to do the traditional "carved chunks from meat on a rotating spit" for they Gyros but the last time it was identically shaped slices like you'd find at a store. It didn't taste bad (these slices often do as they usually are full of soy) but it wasn't the same. Too bad. I hope they go back.

Short answer is no. Personally, I don't care for greek food. They do make decent salads.

To me if a gyro is not made the traditional way on a spit it is not worth eating.
