Sadly, no surprise. Loved the Athens in SS. Athena's not so much. Actually, not at all. So-so food, poor service. Went once. Never again. Drove by it several times. Parking lot always empty.

We are with redwitch on Athens. It is still sad when any business closes because it hurt so many people financially.

I have a hot tip for great Italian food in a place I would never think about going to because it is hooked up to a gas station and looks a little rough from the street. Big Bob's Restaurant and Pizza on Rte 25 in Ocklawaha. Close your eye and go in and give it a try, we thought we were back in NJ/NYC. My wife is a little lady but she ate like she was going to jail tomorrow. A great time and not to expensive and the service was excellent. If you met me I'm qualified to make the recommendation. I am ever so slightly calorically challenged. Wrong thread....sorry! Never noticed this place mentioned on TOTV.

Not surprised either. Food and service was terrible at Athenos.

Many people lost money with gift cards purchased from their location in Spanish Springs.

The location they chose to move into, should be named Death Valley

I think many people felt the same way. I was one of the lucky ones that got my money back but I never set foot i the new restaurant because of how they treated their loyal customers.

I bet the owners kicked themselves everyday after quitting their restaurant in Spanish Springs. It was extremely popular both as a restaurant and as a bar.

If they had renewed their lease with the Developer and would have paid more in rent, that easily could have been made up for by raising prices 50 cents or a dollar on meals and 25 cents on beer.

Well, they had their chance and blew it big time. You would have thought that the owners would have realized that location is everything! The Villages is a great location. The outskirts of Lady Lake - not great for a restaurant with poor service.

The service was probably poor because their employees (with children) from the Spanish Springs restaurant would lose their right to send their children to The Villages Charter School - so they found other jobs inside The Villages.

Thumbs up Do You Know

Do you actually know where Athen's New York is? it is a small village about 70 miles north of NY City, on the Hudson. It is directly across from Hudson, New York which is famous for the Fredrick Church (the Artist) Castle and grounds. Hudson itself is a big Antique town which draws a load of NY City tourists. Athens was a well established farming town and today still has a little charm as a small village. My Grandfather was the Sheriff for Green County at the turn of the century and had a farm in Athens. He was born in 1871 and lived for 102 years and passed away in 1972. I hope the Restaurant does well as they represent a real charming village.

Why don't people READ the entire thread before posting? It's not just this post. This post just reminded me of the dozens of posts daily from people that don't read an entire post or the many links people take the time to find and post on this site.

"Athens" has been closed long enough for the owners to open and close another restaurant.
