I wouldn’t listen to all the food critics on here, try places yourself . People who think Culver’s is fine dining don’t make the greatest food critics

We have been largely guided by recommendations as we try new food venues around here and have found quite a few that we enjoy.

When we hear lots about sanitation problems it does make us think we should dine elsewhere

Exactly. I've learned never to take restaurant recommendations from any TOTV posts as gospel. I check them out myself.

I use to go to the Cody's at LSL about 3 or 4 times a year. It had the most casual atmosphere you could imagine. Windows overlooking the lake, tables covered with paper, the waiter would write their name in crayon on the paper, and there more crayons in a little can you could draw or write right on the paper cloth. Every table had a larger can filled with roasted peanuts in the shell, if you needed more they had them in a big barrel in different places. Most meals came with a salad, they served the salad in a large metal bowl and the waiters would toss it right at your table. It was lettuce with ranch, nothing special but was good. My wife once went and wasn't hungry, so she just got the tossed salad and it was only $3.

I only ate basic items, my favorite was the Road Kill Chopped Steak. It was $10.99 on the lunch menu last time I was there. It's really good covered in grilled onions with mashed potatoes. One big come-on is happy hour all day, 2 for 1, so I usually ordered a draft beer and they bring you two. Of course it's $5, so it's really not a bargain but at least you didn't have to wait for the waitress.

Outside was a covered patio and we went a lot of times on Saturday and moved out there after eating. There was a couple named "Take 2" and they played from 1pm - 4pm and another entertainer came afterwards. They had a huge playlist, anything from Lady Antebellum I Need you Now to Journey, etc. They were Ronnie & Karen, and Ronnie was African American and was always telling jokes. Every week they would play The Kingsman 'Louie Louie', but Ronnie was say it's the Klansman and then Karen would correct him, sort of an Abbott & Costello routine. It was not air conditioned on the patio, but they had fans it wasn't too bad. The floors inside and out were usually covered with peanuts shells, which does bother some diners, but I looked at as part of the atmosphere.

The Mulberry location was only about 3 years old and I never ate there, one reason was I never saw a good review of that place. Brownwood I hate once and it had no view and seemed to lack something, I always felt I might as well be across the street at Gators Dockside watching the big screen TVs, which is where I would be. Also the reviews for Brownwood were mixed, usually more bad than good.

Lake Sumter Landing location, if you can get it, ask for a booth by the window

We have been Codys customers since their first day and I'm not sure we will go back when they reopen.

I stopped going to the Brownwood location but in July I'll give them another chance. They always did have good draft beer.

Cody's in Mulberry is terrible. Gave them three strikes and they are out. We love the other Cody's and were excited when they announced the Mulberry store. We have been very disappointed. They need to totally revamp the Mulberry restaurant or sell it to Texas Roadhouse or Millers Ale House or another decent operator that will do a better job.

Cody's has the best BBQ ribs around.......fall off the bone good with a delectable BBQ sauce. They have an excellent salad (all you can eat) at dinner time and always cooked perfectly baked sweet potatoes. We always go to the Lake Sumter Landing locaction and we LOVE the place.

I hear you. Until the virus is done not going to restaurants other than take out but building up a list of which ones we want to try.

Moved here about a year and a half ago and I have gone often to the Lake Sumter Cody’s. I like their food and I especially like the people there. Glad to hear the reopening is coming. I will go back.
