20 days after closing Villages’ restaurant, TGI Fridays chain up for sale
November 22, 2013 By Meta Minton 13 Comments Twenty days after TGI Fridays abruptly closed its doors on the restaurant at Lake Sumter Landing, the owner of the national chain of restaurants has announced its is putting them all up for sale. Carlson, the family-owned company that owns Radisson hotels and other hospitality and travel brands, is considering “strategic alternatives” for its TGI Fridays restaurant chain, the Wall Street Journal is reporting. Known for casual American food, Fridays has been a staple for mall-going teenagers and families for more than 45 years. More recently, the restaurant chain has tried to carry the appeal of its classic American dishes such as chicken wings, potato skins and burgers abroad. There are more than 900 TGI Fridays restaurants in nearly 60 countries worldwide and the chain has annual sales exceeding $2.5 billion, according to its website.
