Question Carvel Ice Cream Store in TV

Hi! Can anyone tell me why the Carvel Ice Cream store didn't make it? Did people not like the place?

I don't know, I always thought their soft serve ice cream was pretty good. Sorry to see them go.

Hate to admit to this, but where is/was it located?

Have always gone to "Ollies"

Assuming the Carvel's in Spanish Springs has closed?? If so, that's too bad.

Is the Carvel's in Lady Lake a replacement for the store in Spanish Springs or has it been there a while?

Thanks for any info.

It is somewhat evident that there may have been multple reasons.
Many Village residents did not even know where it was located, despite being golf cart accessible. Not enough business and rent too high. Add to that, the fact that you can pick up a Carvel Ice Cream Cake from other area grocery stores. Lastly, in a tough economy, I guess Ice Cream is not considered a necessity.

A bit off topic, but ice cream related. How about Bruster's(?) up by Mulberry Grove. Still open?

Yes, Brewster's is still open. If you go there with a dog they will give you a "puppy cup"

Thanks Tal.......Looks like it was north of 466 on 441 and not cart accessible. Probably why I never went there.

I guess location is always a factor. The ice cream cakes from the grocery store come from Baltimore, MD and they have a long shelf life in the store. At a Carvel Ice Cream store they are made fresh to order. A northerner Carvel customer knows a fresh cake!!

Thanks for everyones input.

Along with it not being easily accessible, the prices were much too high compared to the local competition such as Brewster's and Ollie's. That's why we just tried it once and never returned.

There was an icecream business (forgot the name) on Rte 466 in front of the Public strip mall in Southern Trace that never made it. Terrible service; couldn't keep good help.

The owners of the Carvel are friends and neighbors of ours. They never stood a chance. After working with TV to open the store (and it was a struggle), after 6 months, TV sold the entire shopping complex to a German company. The new landlords couldn't raise the rent because they had a lease, so instead they raised the price of their parking lot allotment, the air conditioning allotment (all the stores share an ac unit), etc. The prices just kept going up and up. Larry and Frankie kept their heads above water for a while with catering, but then that tapered off. Another experience where the owner was run off by the constant greed of the landlord.

That's really a shame for them. These landlords stick it to themselves. When businesses fail then everyone fails. Makes no sense to me. Maybe someone should open up a Carvel in another location of TV.
