Default Great experience at Hemingway's at Havana!

If you haven't tried Hemingway's yet -- I encourage you to get there soon! The menu is a great change from a lot of TV restaurants. The flavors and combinations of food taste just wonderful. I liked it so much yesterday, that I took my husband back today and we're looking forward to many more visits there. Great service, too!

We've been there three times and have been very pleased. Not crazy about their version of cole slaw (shredded kale). We'll be back!

I ordered a Cuban sandwich and got a bacon cheeseburger. My wife ordered Black Bean Soup and got New England Clam Chowder. I guess they were having a bad day!

Try the Shrimp and Grits. Best I have ever had, and I don't like grits.

I hope they got a new hostess. The lady they had was the cause of a lot of customers leaving before they were seated.

Why did you order shrimp and grits if you don't like grits? Persnally, I like grits. We were there today and I almost ordered the S&G, but decided on the Miami Burger. IT WAS HUGE!!! Ordered fries instead of the Kale Slaw. That just didn't sound good to me. The burger was delicious. So big that once you picked it up, you couldn't put it down. Want to go back and try the Maimi Hot Dog. The Miami Burger and the Miami Dog both have ham on them. The burger was unlike any I have ever had, and I have had my share of butgers. I have been to Square 1 three times and I would put the burger at Hemingway's above any I have had at Square 1.

I was very excited at Havana tonight after having the trout. It was awesome. If they keep this up they will be very successful

I also found out they will soon implement the same rewards ( points ) program they have at Lopez.

Default Happy Hour

Hubby phoned yesterday to find out when the happy hour is. 3 to 6. We went at 5 and sat at the bar for a drink. The check came and was for full price. Hubby asked the bartender how happy hour worked. The answer was 1/2 price drinks. Hubby said this check is for full price ($10.00 for 2 drinks) The answer was "Probably So" After a while the bartender came with a revised check. We did not appreciate the attempt to overcharge hoping we would not notice. We were so much hoping we had found another good restaurant close by.

Hopefully we'll try Havana soon. Lighthouse Point has pretty good shrimp and grits.

We went to Hemingway's for lunch today. I have to see, the place is almost perfect, and certainly far and away better than my last attempt to eat lunch at Havana's.

I had the tea sandwiches, which were egg salad on one croissant and ham salad on the other along with mushroom soup and brie soup. My husband had the club sandwich and roasted red pepper and gouda soup.

Everything was delicious except for the ham salad, which was very salty. The ham on the club sandwich must've been a different kind or type, because it wasn't nearly as salty.

Our waiter was new enough that he was perhaps a bit too attentive. Also, he had to read the specials from his notebook and was a bit stilted and uncomfortable. He just needs a little more experience/training and he'll be quite good.

And finally, the music was not appropriate for the setting. Instead of oldies from the fifties and sixties, it would have really added to the whole dining experience if they piped in something more Hemingway-esque. He loved Josephine Baker. That, a little Cole Porter, some Cuban music from the thirties and BAMMO, you've just been transported. I know it is a small thing, but small things make a restaurant over the top excellent, and this place is so close.

We will definitely be going back to the new Hemingway's!

How do you know this was intentional, hoping to pull one over on you?
