Forgive me if this has already discussed, but does any one know whay the Tea Plantation Restaurant closed?
It was always a favorite of ours, especially when we had guests.

I liked it too. Hated to see it go. There was a previous thread about the Tea Plantation closing, but I don't know why it closed. The florist is still open and now there is a lovely gift shop where the restaurant was.

Goodness, I didn't realize it had closed. I've got to get downtown more...

I liked it too and I meant to go back, but it is sort of out of the way. And that may be the reason it closed, sadly.

Maybe I'm missing something, but when did Canal Street in Sumter Landing become "out of the way"?

This is a sad loss of a place with a bit of quiet, southern ambience that we northerners enjoyed at the former Veranda Restaurant.
While I like Panera's food there, the ambience is stark and industrial inside. |

Maybe Gracie was thinking of Polly's Pantry in Wildwood?

I liked it, but I can understand the "out of the way" comment. It wasn't on the Square. You actually had to GASP walk a block from the square to get there. I also think that a lot of men didn't want to eat there -- a little too "sissified" for them.

Oh sorry Gail. I was thinking of the tea place in Wildwood. You are right of course.

My daughter loved the Tea Plantation - she will be so disappointed to know it has closed. Hope there's a replacement before she comes back to visit!

When were down on our lifestyle visit, I saw the Plantation Tea House but didn't really think of it as a place to go...wasn't sure exactly what it was, thought it was just a nice looking place to stop for a 'spot of tea' but wasn't sure hubby would like it.

Tea Plantation has been a dining favorite of ours since we moved here. We know the owners and they made the decision to close and expand the floral/gift shop business because the restaurant was just not getting enough business to keep it open. |

Also sad to see it closed. I loved it and have fond memories of meeting Chels and Rene there. Boo hoo.

from what I have heard, too many folks just assumed it was tea and crumpets and not their thing, hence a very small following.
If they had more recognition of offering good food as well as pub like refreshments, they might have had a larger following. I wonder if Too Jays or GarVino's or Tuscany Day Spa and Salon know they are in an out of the way area? ![]() btk |
