Mazzaros market in St Petersburg has what you’re looking for. Not really in the area but most Villagers go there with coolers and shop long term. It’s an easy day trip.

We are in our Rhode Island home for the summer. For those of you who don't know RI is between Boston and NYC. We have about 5 Italian bakeries within a few miles of us, one better than the other. We sure do miss them when we are in Florida.

Mazzarosmarket.com
It’s like a small version of the Bronx Market in the Bronx Little Italy. I miss the Arthur Ave bread and a good Lattcini. I miss buying pasta and bread by the number (size). . Napolino’s bread is good and they used to sell it. Haven’t been there in a while. Let us know if you find anything.

Default Italian Bread

Good that the question was asked to an older group, the young people don't know what LARD is, and what it was used for. Just ran into it recently.

EXACTLY!
1 3/4 hour trip from 44 and 301 in The Villages.

While you are there, there is a Kosher store 2 blocks from them, with great fresh lox, handmade knishes and lots of other good stuff. Jo-El's.

Just like bagels and pizza, there are no good bread bakery’s because the water in Florida is terrible!

has nothing to do with that, we have made both for years with Florida water with no problems. The problem is actually tourists and birds (as in snow) aside from places like publix is in a rush and could care less, they have the ovens to do it but they don't proof it like it needs to plus in talking to one of the bakery managers they stated that (best I recall) "the old people like it softer" but also offered if I placed a side order that he would personally make it harder crust etc but I'd have to also wait until the middle of the week on a "non check week"

Sadly, Scala/Scali is strictly a Boston/New England thing. I miss it too.
