Default Tavern RED never again

6 of us went for lunch today,,,our server Trevor ,informened us as we ordered, if we were using credit cards could we please tip in cash,as he was going to a concert tonight and needed the $$ now , rather than wait for his paycheck to get the tip, need less to say we were taken back a bit. The food was ok,nothing outstanding, service well, he walked out the front door 2 times to talk on cell. We would have sat and had a couple beers and watched the Masters. When it came time to,we were informed our server had left, the gal that seemed in charge looked for our ticket. We let her know what happened, her response was "sorry about that" For some reason leaving cash for the tip never came into play. There was no tip.

We just got home from Taverna Red a few minutes ago. Had a celebration of life for a friend who passed away. We had the party room and we had between 45 and 50 people today. The service was excellent and the food very good. The desserts were scrumptious. The manager even let us stay longer than we had originally planned and was very gracious. It is the second time I've been there. The other time it took longer than usual to seat us due to a little disorganization, but once we were seated, the service and food were great. I would definitely go back.

He probably shouldn't have said that but he's also probably a kid and was just being honest with you. I would have definitely given him the cash...these servers earn their money. There are many of us on this site that at one time or another worked in a restaurant...and needed every penny we got. I find it sad that people will knock a "lazy young person...he should get a job!" and then complain when they ARE working that they should do a better job of attending to our whims...Lighten up...you can afford to spend your time sipping beer and watching the Masters...the kid just wanted a few bucks to enjoy a concert...sheesh

I'm just wondering why, if Trevor needed the cash tip so bad, he left the restaurant before his customers paid. Whether he needed the money or not, what he did was not professional or acceptable.

If he was a good waiter, I would still have tipped him regardless...but maybe not in cash since I don't always carry cash with me.

I agree with villageshooter, no tip for that kid. Even kids who are old enough to work should know enough not act that way.

Default Not a kid

This server was not a kid,,, we had to listen to his tale of starting to be triathlete in the 40 & under division, he did nothing but plop the food down and leave,,, thus the reason for no tip,, in my world you earn your pay,, unless however if it is Obama welfare as so many have come to expect. Btw we all are known to leave way more than expected when earned. But in this case, he got what he was worth. He was not concerned enough to remain till we even finished our meal.

Tips are not only for the wait staff, they are shared with the host, bus boys, chiefs, etc . . . so what you did was stiff the whole staff. If the service was that bad you should have asked for the manager on duty and the business card of the owner/manager and let them know what happened.

It is possible he wanted the cash so he would not have to tip out(give the bartender and food runner) the rest of the staff
their percentage

Question

You don't seem too easy to please. You complain that he tried to be personable with you, and then you complain that all he did was plop down the food and walk away. You don't want him to chat with you, but you do want something other than service. I don't understand.

Maybe the phone calls he got told him his mother was in the hospital as the result of an accident and he left to go see her?
Maybe the phone calls were telling him his car was being repossessed since he didn't make enough in tips?
Whatever - aren't we quick to judge?

I agree. Personally, I would never eat at a restaurant without leaving a tip. However, if I did, I wouldn't go back to the restaurant either as it would be um... imprudent to expect good service the next time.

Default I am not Dr. Phil

When I go out to eat with 5 friends we are not there to listen to someone's personal issues. All I want you to do is take my order in timely manner, bring my drink, keep my water glass full (don't ask if I want more, just fill it) bring my food as ordered, Comeback and check if everything is ok, if my beer glass is empty, inquire if I would like another beer. When I am done eating remove the dirty dishes. Keep me in beer till I am ready to leave. Bring me the bill. I will pay, and I leave a tip from 20-30 % tip depending if ur female with nice legs.
