Default Best lunch in The Villages

For a really good lunch and a unique experience, try Taquitos Reo Verdi. Find it by going to Hillsborough and Morse. Turn onto Hillsborough and go to the first left past the end of the first villa complex. at the end of the street, at the cup de sac from about 10:00 to 2:30 weekdays, you'll find Taquitos Reo Verdi. Great Mexican food from a food truck.

I have eaten quite a bit of pulled pork. Salsa not barbecue, but the carnitas tacos has as good of pulled pork as anywhere. Pollo is so-so. Alpastor excellent. You have to eat in your car with the workers, but I expect most of us have worked most or our life so that shouldn't be a problem.

I go about 3 days a week in my golf cart and I feel a little out of place (not unwelcome) as the only gringo without boots.

Thanks for your report. I have seen the truck which you speak and wondered how was the food.

I don't remember seeing anything about good trucks here. I spent many a lunchhour in line to eat at a Food truck in my previous life.

Are these food trucks regulated by whoever regulates in Florida? It was the health dept in NC and many places I've seen here would have passed muster! I felt better in NC where the Health Grades had to be prominently displayed!

There is a food truck now daily on 466 near the Hampton-I thought the quality was just average but friends rave about it-I prefer the hotdog who's at the same location

There's an app for that. "what the health - FL" iPhone or android. gives you the scores of all the restaurants within a certain distance of your current location. It's updated as the health department completes an inspection and posts the score. A letter grade is assigned, and a numerical grade within the range for that letter. Don't leave home without it!

That's right, God Forbid that people with or without technology ever see the grade posted as they walk in the restaurant like NC!!

One of the best burgers and hot dogs we've had in recent years was from a food truck at a new car sales lot in Leesburg where it was taking awhile to get everything done for our new car purchase.

We didn't need to see a letter grade by inspectors when we could see them take the burger out of the wrap and grille it and pull the bun out of a retail bag of buns just like we'd do at home. Oh. And pull a can of Pepsi out of the 12-pak carton of cans.

Excellent tacos!! I never miss them if I am down that way at lunch time. I agree that while the chicken is good .... the pork is excellent!

If their was a health problem (and yes, they have to be registered & inspected just like a reg restaurant) .... then house construction in TV would come to a screeching halt as 50% of the workers eat lunch there everyday.

I have to warn you though ..... be aware that you will be standing in line, on grass & dirt, with the unwashed masses of construction labors. So if you get all squeamish at the thought of lawn crews using neighborhood pool bathrooms .... this is prob not your cup of tea.

Ok seems like a perfect lunch when out on a walk. Now if the temps would only cool down enough for an afternoon walk. LOL

I downloaded the app for that very reason. I moved here from Charlotte.

My wife and a neighbor stood in line at the food trucks while construction was going on near us.....they loved the food.

Thanks for the tip! Thank goodness those food inspectors in NC are very strict! I hate to be squeamish but I, unfortunately, had a bad experience with ecoli once a long time ago and it's not easily forgotten!

There is something very very wrong about buying anything from a truck. I just can't get passed that nor the typical hotdog vending stand on the corner of.........
