Personally, I say that Oakwood is THE place to go for baby back ribs and Sonny's for pulled pork. |

I could just order the green beans........OR the lima beans. BABY back ribs are falling off the bone tender, succulent, seasoned just right and cooked low and slow and served with your choice of barbecue sauce. It isn't a beautiful place but the help has been there for years and are good at cooking. They are a small group of restaurants I think. Maybe four total? When the one on 441 is very busy....we just drive way further down 441 and it isn't busy. oakwood smokehouse & grill - Bing

In a BBQ-if meat falls off the bones--you lose, I had a neighbor in NC who was a judge in BBQ competitions

Pork ribs and Beef ribs should be firm enough to bite off the bone, as already stated by Chatbrat.
Altman's has the best brisket I've had since moving here from Texas. I enjoy Memphis sweet pork BBQ, North Carolina mustard and vinegar pork BBQ and Texas Beef BBQ. It's really too bad so many posters have such a poor understanding of smoked meat. To each his own. Enjoy your beans and potatoes. I hear they are prepared to perfection in Wisconsin. I've eaten at a handful of Sonny's throughout the south and was never that impressed so my wife and I avoided the one at Lake Sumter for several months after moving here last year. One time we finally went and quite enjoyed the meal. We've been several times since and have always enjoyed everything we've had, as have our guests. I don't know why this one is so much better than the other ones we've been to. Possibly it's the cook or the training all the cooks there have had, but it's always been good, Florida-style barbecue.
I've had the pulled pork from Oakwood a couple of times at catered events and found it pretty good. We finally ate at the one on south 27 the other day and the wife ordered the pulled pork and found it full of fat and rind. She was unimpressed. I'd felt like a burger and got a decent one. The in-laws split something else (I forget what) and claimed it was good. So 3 out of 4 got OK food at that one. Maybe another location would have given us better luck. |
