So, you're taking your frustrations out on the server. Bully for you----NOT!

Make sure you tell the Server what you're doing. & before everyone wants to beat up on me for agreeing .. those servers can get a job anywhere they want. There's not a restaurant in the USA, that's not hiring. They can get a job at an honest restaurant, not a restaurant that wants to jack up prices and hide it in a fee. |

But you know nowadays they have a tip offering on the register when all you did was buy something! I refuse to tip under those circumstances because they get paid to sell me something. Of course a server gets paid to bring me my food, but if they do something extra, have a smile on their face, or something like that I will tip generously. Unless it’s printed on the bill, I HATE that. Besides, it’s always less than what I would’ve given.

I hate paying $10 or $12 guess I would pass at $18. I do think this was the shortest rant I have ever seen, rant on…

Agree, F.O.S. there is VERY good, but, not that good ! Time to make it at home, there are some FABULOUS on line recipes, butter, caramelized onions, beef broth.. sounds like some high class French cooking but actually not difficult to make VERY VERY good F.O.S. at home... try Julia Child's classic recipe to start with... Make your own large round crouton with a cookie cutter and you can find Gruyere cheese at Aldi ...have fun with the new hobby, we make it at least twice a month. An aside, eating out in the villages is really getting a bit out of hand price wise. Sure, things have really gone up, up, up with the inflation following the Covid pandemic, but $14-$18 cups (and a "cup" is never a full 8 oz ! ), and nearly $15 for a big mac meal deal, home cooking gets better and better, LOL, and that's not inexpensive !

It is getting to a point where cooking at home is the better alternative. It is cheaper, full of quality ingredients, and is much healthier. We make French onion soup, often. We freeze the leftovers to enjoy when we want something fast. Pull out a pot, and give it a try! Your wallet and stomach will thank you.

IMO cooking at home has always been the best alternative. Luckily I got wife that can cook. Another thing, cooking at home you know what’s in it and there no closed doors. cause nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors. Last edited by Topspinmo; 01-28-2024 at 01:05 PM. |

You bring up a good point. Not too long ago, Palmers failed a health inspection. One never knows what is going on behind the kitchen doors.

In their defense I take 3 hours to slowly caramelize my onions to the bronze color of choice. Then add the homemade stock that took 8 hours to give it depth.
Toasting the 1/2” French bread in the oven, then adding copious amounts of Gruyère to insure bread stays crisp, while Gruyère has the almost perfect melt. Ladle in about 1/4 cup of onions from the pot add stock to the crock. Then gently float the toasted bread returning to oven with extra cheese to get that slightly brown top. So I get the $18 for French onion soup because I am sure that’s how they prepare it. (holding a Sheldon sign) Mods we really need a Sheldon sign icon
