I've had them at Chi's, Gators Dockside and RJ Gators. I like Chi's but also like RJ Gators. Try it!

3. the best meat that you can use is shaved steak, available at SweetBay. yellow onions, carmelized. never raw onions and never red onions.
4. the only cheese that you can use is Cheese Whiz. no, you cannot top it with provolone or swiss.
5. there has to be a certain amount of grease. sorry, but low cholesterol is not part of the allure.
6. if you must, you may add some very thick marinara-type sauce on it. just enough to moisten. not ketchup.
Glad to see that you didn't forget the Cheese Whiz. People here in Michigan look at me funny when I tell them that is one of the key ingredients!

I second the best place is to buy the shaved steak at Sweet Bay, its the best around. Just came back from NJ with 2 doz. corn, jersey tomatoes and 2 doz. rolls in my suitcase and ran right to sweet bay to make our own...mmmm

TJ Pizza on 27 near Leesburg make a good pizza and Philly Cheesesteak. He is form Port Richmond and Cape May. When you walk in everything is Eagles and Phillies...

Awww, but you are wrong about 2. You can buy Amoroso rolls at Chi's. He has them shipped in. He actually sell them if you ask.
And I agree definitely with 6.

That's chi's. greasy cheesesteaks with the wiz. Can't have one without the wiz. They also will put other cheeses on but you have to have the wiz. I'm also from Michigan and they had a cheesesteak place called joeys in Southgate, mi and they had the wiz too. Good stuff and the fries at chi's are also good.

Hubby has been hungry for a cheesesteak sandwich. I'm not much of a meat eater, but after reading so many positive reviews of Chi's, decided to give it a try tonight.

Both of our sandwiches were amazing! Such tender meat and the toppings were fresh and cooked perfectly (onions, peppers). The owner-chef was very personable and the restaurant is very clean. In addition to not being crazy about meat, I'm not much of a fan of French fries. Let me tell you, they have such good French fries, I ate every one!

The ice cream looked delicious, too, but we were just too full to even sample that.

Want to thank everyone for the reviews you've posted! We have a super meal because of them!

We went to Firehouse Subs tonight for the cheesesteak-was ok but I'll take Chi's over Firehouse anyday.Plus you get fries instead of Lay's chips at Chi's.
