I did my lifestyle visit just before WoB opened eleven years ago. One big negative for my visit was that I could not find a decent ale ANYWHERE. No one carried IPAs—even grocery stores. All I could find was tasteless swill that is made for people who don’t like variety or even the taste of beer. I guess most people drink watery pilsners just to get drunk. Me? I like the adventure of trying new things.

When I was complaining to the waiter at City Fire, they told me that WoB was coming soon, so I decided I would be able to live in Florida. That has all changed now and most restaurants now carry an ale. The selection still sucks at most restaurants, but at least we have places like WoB and Sunny Pint to find a wide variety of beers with flavor. I can now find a couple dozen ales at Publix, plus ABC and Total Wine have an awesome selection.

If you think there is too much drinking in TV, then it would be better to close places like City Fire, Cody’s, and the various Gators where people go just to get drunk and smoke than places like WoB where people go because they want to experience the variety.

BTW, I’ve tried 645 different beers at WoB. I would hate to see it closed.

People really are different aren't we. I like beer, a lot! I've tried and enjoyed many different brands and types and I'm pretty adventurous when it comes to trying something new but if someone tries to give me an IPA I run. I tried several when they first got popular and I didn't enjoy any of them. I'm glad you enjoy them and now have easy access to them but I'm going to have to leave them to folks like yourself.

WOB management here in The Villages is horrible. I first visited the one in SS in January and knew it was destined to close. My wife and I went there and half of the taps were empty. We went there again in February when we moved here and several times after that and it was always the same story. Half of the taps were always empty. We've been to BW a couple of times now and it's starting down that path. Our home is up north so going to BW to visit WOB to find empty taps is not worth it. They will also soon close.

I understand that if there is no demand for particular beers take them from inventory but looks really bad when half the taps are empty. If your not going to use them remove them.

But ARE half the taps empty as stated in the post you replied to? I've never seen it. I've seen three or four empty, including one that I wanted to try, but never half.

Oh, what an idea! That would be fun to see. And the restaurant rescue show too!

I think it boils down to staff. Never found the bartenders to be very engaging. Plenty of competition in that arena.

No worse than that sugar and caffeine laced latte in your picture.:$:

I see that your avatar is a cup of coffee. That's bad for you too.

Well there going to be a whole lot more consumed when we move in, in a few months. Giddy up!

World of Beer

And that’s a pity because I had one of the best burgers in The Villages there!

I took my visiting brother to WOB a few years ago for a snack and a beer. Saw that they had bottled Becks, one of my favorites, so I ordered it. It was $9.00. Never went back.

Selling Out

I wonder if the term “liquidation” is appropriate for the World of Beer

Agree with those plus a saturated market. There has been an explosion of craft beer bars and brewpubs recently along with more craft beer taps at restaurants. Six years ago WoB was one of the few places to get good craft beer in the Villages. Now in the bubble I can go to Cody's and Gators, Edna's and Sawgrass, and Square 1 plus some of the country clubs. Just outside the bubble is Sunny Pint and Leesburg and not too far away are Flying Boat and The Anchor. And those are just the ones I know about close to here. In a larger city WoB would have even more competition.

There are only so many customers who will go out of their way for craft beer. It could be there are simply too many bars/restaurants/brewpubs competing for the same people.

Based on what metric? Have you been to the grocery store or gas station lately?

Just got back. Took a while due to the long lines. I'm feeling really good about the economy these days.
