I think it will be tougher for restaurateurs this summer especially the ones who own their business in TV. That could mean more restaurants to be closed this year, hope that i am not being too pessimistic.

Restaurants do get more competitive during the summer months. Just today I noticed the RedSauce ad in the paper. Dinner for two including salad, choice of one of three entries and desert for $19 for two people. Pretty good price. Have seen others advertising summer specials as well recently.

Several of the restaurants have $3 lunch coupons ($10 or more purchase) and $4 dinner coupons ($20 or more purchase) in the ads magazines in the local papers on Sundays. You can use the $4 as long as you spend more than $20 lunch or dinner time. Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Logan's, Longhorn to name a few. We usually cut them out of all of the ads mags and when I go to the restaurant, I use one and give the rest to the seniors near by. They appreciate it. Yesterday, I uses a $4 coupon and I gave away two $3 coupons to two tables and two $4 coupons to two other tables.

Also, many of these restaurants have email clubs that send you coupons for buy one get one, $10 off, and free birthday breakfasts, free desserts, etc. Denny's, Too Jays, Longhorn, Logan's, Applebee's to name a few. And if your spouse joins under their own email address they will get coupons also.

I just got a free appetizer at Cody's for joining the email club. Next month, my wife will join.

Every month, Paper Mint (I think) sends each address a magazine with lots of buy one - get one offers and other discounts. Some people toss them into the trash at the mail stop. I pick out two or three and eat cheap for the month.

And BTW - this is year round. I don't think they are more competitive in the summer. You are just now noticing it.

I was just wondering if there were that many people that go north for the summer that it caused a hardship on the restaurants. I'm glad to see that you say it's year round.

My wife and I both usually register for at the restaurants separately and get two coupons and discounts or whatever they offer.

I certainly agree that the competition is year round. I just want to make myself clear, i am comparing how restaurants will perform in this summer than the last one. As I know, the slowest time in Summer could mean 40% difference in sales for some restaurants.

Just wonder if TV is overly populated by restaurants???

Spanish Plaines -- 4 restaurants
Spanish Spring -- 12 restaurants
La Plaza Grande -- 10 restaurants
Rolling Acres -- 5 restaurants
Buffalo Ridge -- 12 restaurants
Southern Trace -- 9 restaurants
Lake Sumter Landing -- 19 restarants
Colony Plaza -- 6 restaurants
And not to mention Spruce Creek, The Villages CrossRoad, etc.

Well, there are too many restaurants in the summer when the snowbirds have flown, and not enough in the winter. C'est la vie!

In The Villages Shopping Guide pamphlet I count 19 restaurants listed under the Restaurant category. However, on that list is Peterbrooke Chocolatier and Haagen-Dazs ice cream shop. Personally I do not consider them restaurants per se but I guess it comes down to your interpretation of a restaurant.

I have been thinking about this. You say there are 5 restaurants in Mulberry. I count 1 - Beef O'Bradys. The others I can think of - Subway, Shang Hai (Chinese) and Paulie's are take out places. Yes they have eat in but that is a very weak definition of a restaurant. I haven't figured out where the fifth one is yet. I hope you did not count Walgreen's stand up bar or the take-out place in the Shell station orr the ice cream place. And Lopez CC is not in Mulberry. Where is the fifth?

Sorry i may have miscounted it, i just followed the shopping n dining guide from http://www.thevillages.com/lifestyle/dining.htm. Maybe i should have used the word "eatery" instead??? do anyone count how many Villages' restaurants or dining places were closed this year so far?
