Default Golf cart freeway

How soon will there be a very serious accident by idiots with golf carts that go 35 mph passing everyone one ! Had this happen 5 times in 3 day. Was going 19 mph and got passed

If it’s safe to do so why can’t they pass you. They are late for retirement games. I like when they pass in a down pour rain with no head lights (and thus no taillights) in the middle of the roadway and expect a vehicle to see them. It’s not being passed either add to that taking the corners at full tilt and often times on your side of the curve.

Not much that you can do about it except to drive defensively. I am more worried about the golf carts that blow through stop signs. Have been nearly hit on a few occasions.

Pretty sure a cart doesn't need to go 35mph in order to pass you when you are going 19mph.

Where did you get your cart-mounted radar gun that tells how fast other carts are going?

I personally don't care if they pass me unless of course they do it around blind curves or cut back in so close I have to hit my brakes to avoid hitting them. Just drive as defensively as you can. Unfortunately they'll eventually cause injury to someone.

Interesting. In 11 years and 29,000 miles on my golf cart, I’ve NEVER seen a cart going 35, yet that post claims 5x in 3 days. Possibly, but right now it’s failing the sniff test. Could it possibly have been going 21-22, more than fast enough to pass
19?

The lifestyle carts top speed is 12-14mph. Any cart passing them, you can hear the swoosh of wind, and never see their break light after the next curve.

Did they hit you? Did they cause you any harm or damage?
If not, let them drive their golf cart and you drive yours. No need getting all verklempt over speeding drivers. They will always exist.

The Villages Golf Cart Rules and Injuries - 2025 Golf Cart Rules For The Villages, FL

This is useful.

My golf cart has the governor on so it cannot go more than 19 MPH.

Almost every other golf cart passes us.

The quicker they pass, the better. It's wise to lift of the throttle to help get them by faster.

But it happens...

This cart passed us at a very high rate of speed same day it was reported to be responsible for a hit and run.

Huh. In 5 years and driving many hours in our golf cart, never once have we seen a golf cart doing 35. We have passed many a cart and ours only does 21 going downhill with a tailwind. Tested it using a GPS speedometer.
I find it safest to just ease up on the gas when someone wants to pass.

Exactly the same, although mine only goes 20.8 downhill with a tailwind. I have no idea why some people get their undies in a bunch because somebody passes them. Same happens on a highway. My guess is that it is a form of primitive territoriality, but I'm not a psychiatrist. They'll scream all day that they are only interested in safety, or that they are pointing out the law, but in reality, they just don't like getting passed!

Probably..

Sometimes it's like the 18 wheeler passing in the left lane @ 0.5 mph faster than the truck they are passing. As said previously, best to just lift off the throttle and let them complete the pad.

Then there's the Mario Andreti carts who pass a pedestrian or bike from the opposite direction on the left side of the road not yielding right of way to oncoming traffic.

We've had to go agricultural (go off road) more than once for those instances. Lucky golf carts are built off road (-: LOL :-)

The risk truely is getting higher on the MMP along Marsh Bend Trail. Seems many of the newer carts 4/6/8 passenger are capable of 25-30 mph running from Middleton to destinations north. Sometimes with 6-8 young people without an adult in the cart. In carts so long thatly can't stay in lane on the sharp turns.

Rant on...

Then there's the unsupervised kids. Sunday, a pair of young (9-10 yo) girls crossed McNeil without stopping in front of us on an E-bike and scooter - and almost got hit by a car exiting MBT on to McNeil. There is no gate at that entrance yet.

We made sure they were ok and followed behind them to Magnolia.

But you gotta wonder about parents letting two young girls travel alone several miles on a route along MBT across from a Federal Pennetentary and halfway house...

And this is not the first set of young children we've observed alone on that route, including some after dark...

To the Developer/employee lurkers in Middleton on here, do you know where your children are? You need to protect your beautiful children before something bad happens.

Start with the sex offender list in the area. There's quite a few hits along Warm Springs near Magnolia.

Cart is probably not going faster than 25PMPH. BUT, that’s 25% faster than a cart going 19MPH.
It’s like a car going 60MPH, getting passed by someone going 75MPH.

And that happens all the time - I’ve never seen a post here about speeding on the turnpike - or even Morse Blvd.
