From a Directing perspective
1) A River Runs Through it
2) Legend of B-A-G-G-E-R Vance

Redford did not star in A River.... but, he did direct it and it's a fine film.
A+ for Tom Skerritt performance and the gorgeous scenery.

The Sting is my favorite film in which Robert Redford starred. However, my favorite Redford performances were #1 in the Great Waldo Pepper and #2 in Brubaker.

The Sting and The Natural are indeed great movies. The below two have not been mentioned yet are endlessly entertaining.

I would go with "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". I liked the scene where Sundance said, "Can I move?"

Incidentally, Redford is in a recent movie on Netflix titled, "The Discovery" which I recommend that nobody bothers to watch. Redford has a large role, but not the lead role his acting was OK but not great (I expected better). The lead role was by a guy (don't know his name AND don't want to) who I thought was very bland (and that was kind of me). The movie was mildly science fiction (which I usually like) and the plot had potential, but sort of flat lined about half way through it. I stuck with it to the end, but wish that I had NOT. I was sad for Robert Redford's face, which has more wrinkles that what I see in my mirror. He must have needed money for some reason to do THAT movie. I would recommend that people watch the 1st 5 minutes just to see him and to respect his lifetime of GREAT acting.
