Having back issues, with two surgeries so far, and my surgeon doesn’t want to do a third. Recommended today a Medtronic Spinal Cord Stimulation implant; anyone had this done - pros and cons? TIA

I know someone who has one and it didn't help. Everyone is different though.

I have the Abbott Labs version. It helps but it is just one tool in a big tool belt. It’s about the size of these new car key fob. It sends electric signals to the brain via titanium wiring Above the injured area. I have used mine along with medicine and exercise to control Post-Laminectomy Syndrome.
The biggest downside is you are signing up for a lifetime of ‘minimally invasive’ surgeries. I’ve had 3 procedures in 9 years. The initial implant back in 15. Last year I needed a replacement pc. After that my titanium wiring shorted slightly and needed replaced. Would I do it again? Yes. Do I suggest you do it? Maybe. It’s not for everyone. It’s dumb but I will admit it for medical sake, it is slightly jarring to feel equipment inside you. When I touch the area while showering, It jerks me back from whatever vacation my brain was on. And sometimes sitting is uncomfortable due to the pc pushing on a hard chair. (Not trying to take this too far) You better make sure your partner won’t get the ick from touching it during the happy times/dancing/etc. |

I have a NERVO SCS implanted in my left side back down low. I have had it for over 3 years. After a few months I could sense a major change to my spinal cord pain. Now I would say I have had a 90% improvement. A game changer for me. Unless I am using the recharge paddle I don't even notice it.
