I can't loosen the glass globe on this bathroom light fixture. There appears to be corrosion that is making it stick to the fixture. I've tried a product to remove rust, inserted and tapped on a thin blade and hitting the globe gently with a rubber mallet. All to no avail. Any suggestions on how to remove this globe are appreciated.

It looks like the type where the glass has threads, and corrosion usually doesn't affect it. A few things to try are to turn it clockwise and then counterclockwise. Use rubber gloves to get a good grip. Also, a suction cup on a handle can sometimes work, especially if the handle has a perpendicular piece to add leverage. Maybe even try using a toilet plunger. Keep trying, and it will eventually come off. You can also view some YouTube videos.

This is good advice especially the rubber gloves that will further increase your grip and leverage on it.

Also, you can try to gently heat the metal ring using a hairdryer on a low setting. This will expand the metal a little and should help you get the glass globe out.

Rubber gloves don't work. They do improve the friction but eventually they just slip off the globe. Ordering a suction cup and will try that along with the hair dryer. Thanks for the replies.

I would apply some direct UPWARD pressure while turning. Gravity keeps it at the very edge of the threads, but there's always a little wiggle room (otherwise there'd be no way to add the original builb). If you push up JUST slightly - sometimes that's enough to get it to turn.

Good point, the glass lens might unscrew from the ring that your trying to turn instead of the whole fixture.

Correct. For the ones I have removed, the bottom globe is all glass including the threads, and you just need to rotate the glass counterclockwise. They get stuck, but I have always been able to remove it. Adding leverage will help, which means that you may need to add a horizontal piece to increase the torque.

Suction cups delivered today. Glad I order a package of two. Just one in the center or side didn't work. Two on opposite sides of the globe did the trick. Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. Much appreciated.

Great. Placing a suction cup on each side of the globe added the leverage to increase the torque. The farther away from the center you go, the more torque you can get.
