Now that they've removed the option to pay at the local postal station, we can pay online, except they charge you a fee for paying with a credit card. They also charge you a lesser fee for paying by debit card. But, the website says, if you pay with a recurring payment withdrawn from your savings account there's no fee. Well, there is, that part of the website is wrong.
So how can one pay their amenities without any additional fees?

They have been withdrawing payments from my bank account for years with no fee. That part of the website is not wrong from my experience.
Now, if you are trying to enter a one time ACH payment (e-check) then there is a fee for that.

Exactly, you beat me to it. We have been on autopay from the checking account for 11 years. |

Set up a second bank account (checking or savings) with a small balance (enough to not invoke a monthly maintenance fee) and use it for auto payments. Add funds as needed. Then you don't have to worry about direct access to your main checking account. I do this for the gym, SECO, amenity/water fees, cell phone, Xfinity. I save a few bucks by not using a credit card and I don't have to worry about my main account getting hacked or overcharged.

That's weird, when I set mine up and linked mine to my checking account for automatic payment they have a $.95 fee on it, even though I set up a recurring payment.

When I called and talked to them they said if it was my own personal check there was no additional fee, but if I used my bank's bill pay feature to mail them payment (which my bank does) there would be an additional fee added from The Villages. That's incorrect?

The $0.95 fee is from the Villages new vendor, Invoice Cloud. If you set up the payment through the Villages website, their vendor charges the fee. However, if you add The Villages as a payee through your own bank and use your bank's billpay system, you bypass the Invoice Cloud vendor and there is no fee. When I get the bill, I write down the payment amount and log on to my own bank, Truist Bank, and make the payment using the Truist billpay system. This leaves Invoice Cloud out of the transaction, and the money goes directly from Truist to the Villages. As I said, I have been doing it this way for 10 years, and I have never paid a fee. I actually called the Villages bill payment system a few years ago, and they told me they will accept electronic payments this way with no fee, even though this method is not listed on the bill as a payment method. |
