Default Mobility scooter….

I’m developing some medical issues, and believe at some time in a few years will need a mobility scooter (grrrr). But so be it.

I’ve been checking out some on Amazon etc. I definitely would like one that folds up and is light enough to put into the trunk of our sedan. I’ve seen some that are 48 lbs and would easily fit. I would not want ones that are about 90 lbs. would not want an external lift or ramp.

Would not need it for long trips as travel would be questionable. So just for shopping, local travel.

Does anyone have experience with these. Also heard that Medicare may cover some of the expense, although that’s not an issue. The lightweight ones are only about $500.

TIA for any input.

These sometimes come up for sale on this site, and you may be able to see and test. I would be very careful of Amazon, as some of these maybe Chinese and could have batteries that maybe subject to fires, think about the e-cycles, etc.
I fortunately do not have firsthand experience so I will leave others to provide that information.

My wife and I researched recently all mobility scooters that fold - including GoGo, Forcemesh, Golden, Scootngo and more.

The ScootNgo was the lightest at 40 pounds including the arm rests and the battery. It folds by just lifting up the center bar. It unfolds in about 5 seconds. Without the battery and the arm rest the weight goes down to 33 pounds. It folds to the size of a suitcase with no disassembly. It's airline and cruise approved though the battery is a carry on item. My wife has a severe back problem and can lift the scooter into her SUV. Speed is up to 5 mph, range 13 miles. Cost on Amazon, Walmart on the ScootNgo site is $1499 plus sales tax. This unit has yet not qualified as a medical scooter. We got it on Saturday and my wife was at the mall by herself on Sunday. She was very happy with in. If you're interested to find out more email me at [email protected].

Last year we bought a Journey Lightweight folding wheelchair for my wife. She does not need it full time but for occasions of longer periods of walking required. The chair weighs 26lbs and 29lbs with battery on it. We bought it at Mt Mobility in Leesburg for $2,900

As your mobility issue gets worse, you probably won’t be able to get in and out of trunk. I would suggest you look at carrier that attaches to car and goes up and down to drive it on and off. They attach with trailer hitch. Much better easier and better for back.

VA supply the newest lightweight in the trunk mobility devices, instead of giant lift gate style(unless weight of veteran is a factor).

While in the VA surgical waiting room, a new mobility was brought to a family. Less than 2 minutes employee broke down into 3 pieces removed battery, each weighing 8-13lbs. Seat had arm rests, 4 wheels, easily used inside of home and outside.
Tech stayed with family until comfortably break down and resembled. Only took family about 20 minutes to be a pro. Very impressive the technology of newer mobility equipment

I have used these for a while, and often rent them at Disney, state fairs, etc.

I find that the 3-wheel scooter (one wheel in front) is far more maneuverable than the 4-wheel version. Easier for lines that snake back and forth, or for getting between display racks in a store.

A front basket is essential, for purchases, your cane, or a sweater. You don't want things on your lap, or in a bag behind the seat where you cannot see them.

A cup holder is always nice.

I used to have one that folds. My current one I have to disassemble to get it into the car. Far prefer the one that folds.

I don't remember the name, but QVC had one that folded itself with the touch of a button. It might have even had a remote.

I have both a 3 wheel go go scooter and a COOLHUT 37 Lbs Electric Wheelchair . The wheel chair for joining friends for restaurant outings and seating at the table . It can fold up in seconds and fits in the back seat or trunk.

The scooter can load into the back of the minivan as on piece or brakes into 3 pieces if I'm taking it on the airplane.

Both have pluses and cost only $600 each . No need to spend $2400 and Amazon or Walmart will bring them right to the front door,
