Default Original Medicare October $90 rebate

Received memo Oct 8 announcing $90 payment to Original Medicare Enrollees in Oct 2026.

Sounded odd but checked my account which had received the Payment Oct 10, 2026,

Didn't think it would happen let alone so fast.

You're welcome.
Sincerely,
The taxpayer who got Medicare Advantage, and was therefore ineligible for the rebate.

Thank you and remember Traditional Medicare doesn't provide all those little signup goodies that the Advantage plan has handed out to entice seniors. But you and so many others were warned about the risks so I am guessing you're happy with your choice and all those freebies.

Eligible enrollees in Original Medicare Part B receive a one-time $90 Medicare Improvement Fund Premium Rebate in October 2026 to help offset monthly Part B costs.

And that $90 did not amount to one month of a supplemental plan which the Medicare Advantage taxpayer did not have to purchase. Before you all go into the but you are restricted on an Advantage plans research the difference between a HMO and a PPO.

This is chump change and only for original medicare enrollees. The admininstration is using this to buy votes. Remember when they announced it they did not say it only applied to original medicare. The average villager assumed that it applied to everyone on medicare. Hey, when are we getting that fat $5000 check from Uncle Sam?

The 2027 increase on Medicare premiums will quickly eat up that $90.

So you want insurance with free handouts, zero premiums, and a rebate?

You’re welcome from a 70 year-old taxpayer still on company medical plan.

Medicare Advantage is privatized Medicare. Instead of traditional Medicare, where the federal government directly covers seniors’ health care, Medicare Advantage has the government give taxpayer funds to health insurance companies to manage people’s coverage. Each company gets a flat fee per enrollee — with higher payments for sicker enrollees — and the company profits by keeping the difference between the taxpayer funds they receive and what they spend on patient care.

The interests of insurance companies to maximize profits supersedes their focus on actually ensuring seniors and people with disabilities get health care

People on advantage plans know what they are and many did their research just like we did. We checked ratings and providers, talked with people on the plan, and even talked to SHINE. Who btw, said it was a good option.

Cost was not the only factor. Dental, vision and the wellness benefits were important to us.

We don't need a lecture from people on regular Medicare about how we shouldn't like our ma plans. The vast majority of people we know on a ma plans are happy with them.
And some people we know have major medical issues. We're well aware of the restrictions and copays.

But for us, we don't pay near what Medicare and a suupplement costs until we need it. With medicare you pay up front weather you use it or not. We just pay as we need it. Our yearly out of pocket is $2900, which is very managable for us.

We've been happy with our choice. Medicare is not a one size fits all.

Please explain insurance companies goal to maximize profit vs Medicare desire to minimize payout. My advantage experience is insurance companies are promoting active preemptive health care programs - not getting sick is the best way for the insurance company to maximize profits. FYI Advantage plans by law must provide the basics Medicare covers (without supplemental plans). Another FYI 53% of seniors have chosen advantage plans over standard Medicare.
