It varies, especially if the doctor you ask is the one performing the procedure. Not for monetary reasons (I would hope), but because they have been trained to believe in the procedure. That being said, with no family history and no history of prior colonic polyps (other than hyperplastic polyps), it is not unreasonable to cease screening colonoscopies at age 70-75.
That would be true up until a few years ago. Now, with the advent of relatively accurate stool and blood tests to detect possible malignancies, the bar may be moving. This, again, applies to healthy individuals with no history of polyps or family history of colon cancer. Those with such a history will continue need routine colonoscopy |

My reason for my concern is I had bout with diverticulitis at 85 years old and my
gastrologist ordered a colonoscopy. I was under the impression at my age that it is unusual. Last edited by Michael G.; Today at 08:09 PM. |

My doctor said I was done at 75, now just use the yearly DIY kit and send in for the results.

Just got one recently. The last thing I remembered is when the anesthesiologist said are you ready for me to hit you with a Michael Jackson. Dam, that’s some powerful and fast acting stuff. They scheduled me for the next one in 2031.
