It varies, especially if the doctor you ask is the one performing the procedure. Not for monetary reasons (I would hope), but because they have been trained to believe in the procedure. That being said, with no family history and no history of prior colonic polyps (other than hyperplastic polyps), it is not unreasonable to cease screening colonoscopies at age 70-75.

That would be true up until a few years ago. Now, with the advent of relatively accurate stool and blood tests to detect possible malignancies, the bar may be moving. This, again, applies to healthy individuals with no history of polyps or family history of colon cancer. Those with such a history will continue need routine colonoscopy

My reason for my concern is I had bout with diverticulitis at 85 years old and my
gastrologist ordered a colonoscopy.

I was under the impression at my age that it is unusual.

Apparently you age out at a higher age. I am 78 and according to my primary care physician I have one in my future even though last one was clean.

My doctor said I was done at 75, now just use the yearly DIY kit and send in for the results.

Just got one recently. The last thing I remembered is when the anesthesiologist said are you ready for me to hit you with a Michael Jackson. Dam, that’s some powerful and fast acting stuff. They scheduled me for the next one in 2031.

I would get a second opinion and not ask ToTV clickers.

during my last colonoscopy they must have asked me five times my name and date the birth and what i'm there for. Finally as they wheeled me into the room where the procedure would take place they asked me the same questions once again and i told them "i'm here for the time sharing tour" the split second of terror in their eyes
was entertainment that you can't buy

I think I'll ask the anesthesiologist just before he starts: "What, no dinner and dancing first?"

To give a little comic relief to your next colonoscopy go to YouTube and search “Lou Rawls colonoscopy”. Yes the late singer Lou Rawls.

While I was working I had a colonoscopy and asked the doctor for a note. The next day I took the note to the office and laid it in front of my secretary. It read “we found nothing unusual, including your head, in your colon”. She laughed a little, handed it back to me, turned towards her computer and said “yeah, but that was yesterday “.
