I am a mac user and hate the new mavericks upgrades to numbers and pages. I am considering open source programs such as open office and libre office. Has anyone had experience with these programs? Do they download properly and work with existing documents, etc?

I know Open Office works great on a PC and on Linux, don't know why it wouldn't work satisfactorily on a MAC.

Open Office works fine on my MacBook Pro. It will open Microsoft Word and Excel files.

Have you upgraded your MacBook Pro to the most recent mac operating system?

I would definitely go with OpenOffice. You can open any word documents that you want and you can also save them as any word document type that you want. And if you are familiar with Microsoft Office, then you will be able to use this program very easily.
