Default Accident at Dunkin Donuts at Spanish Springs

Did anyone witness or heard of an accident at Dunkin Donuts at Spanish Springs...heard some mixed stories at a class this morning. Something about a car pinning a gentleman and a possible gun. Didn't see anything in the paper this morning.

Todays Daily Sun Page C-3 "Three injured after vehicle jumps curb."----3 people apparently injured around 4 pm Sunday when an occupied car jumped a curb and traveled into the outside seating area at Dunkin Donuts in Spanish Springs. Injuries not life-threatening".

Glad no one was seriously injured

Villager John Bibas was having coffee with friends shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday in the patio area of Dunkin Donuts when a black SUV suddenly plunged into the crowd.
He escaped relatively uninjured, but at least two of his friends weren’t so lucky.
“It was unreal,” Bibas said of the incident at the popular coffee spot at Spanish Springs Town Square.
His friend John Oliveri , 72, suffered leg fractures and head injuries and is a patient at The Villages Regional Hospital.
In all, three people were transported from the scene. Others reported some additional injuries.
Bibas’ friend Donna Prue, 53, who is at the Blue Parrot campground, also suffered injuries to her legs after being pinned in between the tables and chairs.
The driver, 66-year-old Patrick J. Welch of Lady Lake, was cited by Lady Lake Police with careless driving.
According to a preliminary accident report, Welch’s vehicle had been traveling at a speed of 20 mph. The posted speed limit in that area is 25 mph, according to the report.
Bibas, who works part-time for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, said Welch appeared dazed and confused.
“He was only wearing socks,” Bibas said. “No shoes.”
Kristin Stanek and John Roman of Lady Lake had finished eating at Athens NY restaurant and were on their way down the street.
“All of a sudden we heard all of the sirens,” said Stanek.

Donna Prue and John Bibas were outside at Dunkin Donuts Sunday afternoon.

Hope the car driver has lots and lots of liability insurance!

Leg fractures and head injury to a 72 year old are pretty serious no matter if they are life threatening or not. It is going to ruin his golf game for a long time!

Amazing though, isn't it how a story gets things added to it like the car driver had a gun.

25 mph in that area is too fast.

Default We were there

We were having coffee on the patio when the SUV event occurred.
Since we were injured and have claims pending I won't go into details other than to say my husband was one of three people transported by ambulance to the ER.
It was very scary to see this big SUV coming right at us.
One man was struck by the car and pinned in his chair between the car and a concrete post. He had leg and head injuries. He and his friends including a lady who was also injured were seated at the first table the SUV hit.
If that table had not already been occupied we would have probably been sitting there instead of right in back of it.

Oh dear! I hope you are healing well. That is a traumatic experience. I have a friend who was badly injured while walking between two cars in a parking lot. A driver accidentally put the car in drive rather than reverse. She was pinned between two cars. That was 40 years ago and to this day I will never walk between two parked cars. That sort of thing just stays with you.
